Before joining the Flock, Grouse lived alone with his sister and parents. His family was murdered, and Condor saved him from the same fate. Since the day, he's devoted himself to Condor, believing himself indebted to the other tom. He was even more thrilled when Condor started giving attention back to him.

One the hierarchy of the Flock, Grouse is at almost the exact bottom. However, he acts very pompously and full of himself. He'll sing himself praises and put down others (particularly Lain) to make himself feel better. However, the moment Condor or Crane catch him doing something he shouldn't, he turns into a complete coward, scrambling to save his hide.
