Scout met Crane by happenstance once day while out on a hunt. The two hit it off, and soon they became mates, Scout completely unaware of the Flock (which at the time was much smaller than current day). She pressured him to join, but after an encounter with Crane's mother that resulted in the scars on his face, he didn't want to join, but he still liked Crane so he stuck around.

It had been years since that though, and Scout now feels no love for his mate. However, he doesn't wanna shake the boat, so he just keeps quiet and deals with it. He has another partner, a secluded woods cat named Wolf that he hasn't told Crane about. Scout assumes she suspects something, but she never brings it up with him so he doesn't care.
