"No one ever told me that grief felt so like fear.”
Stories - World info - Other
Onimus is a demon of sorrow, that feeds off the guilt of others and attaches to those who have suffered terrible loss, driving them further and further into melancholy so that it can grow more power over them. It is especially drawn to scenes of great tragedy, and typically will leave in the sewers/underground near whomever its victim is at the time. It plagues its targets with images of the source of their grief, and memories of what they've lost to keep opening their mental wounds and push them deeper into sadness.
In life, Onimus was a mother who lost her children in a terrible housefire. Consumed with her regrets and woe, she took her own life and became a demon, hopeless and wanting to corrupt others into feeling her misery.
To escape this demon's grasp, one should face their sorrows and come to terms with what makes them sad, removing the source from which it feeds.

Likes ✔ Causing grief ✔ Children ✔ Tragedy ✔ When people move on from their sorrows ✔ Hiding | Dislikes ✘ Attention ✘ Fighting and aggression ✘ Bright light ✘ Wide, open spaces ✘ Being yelled at |
Positive Traits • Not actively malicious • Non-aggressive/relatively peaceful • Tries to better itself • Is hopeful for its targets | Negative Traits • Drags others down with it • Sorrowful • Regretful • Quiet |
Onimus is solemn and quiet, and rarely has any desire to meet its victims face to face, rather preferring to siphon their sorrow from a distance. It is constantly crying, and those who are its targets can often tell it is there by the soft crying of a woman they can hear coming from their drains or outside of their homes. It is nonaggressive, and generally won't pick a fight and will flee confrontation.
Despite causing sorrow, it is genuinely happy when people can escape it and move on with their lives. Its a strength it, itself, has not managed. It causes grief mostly just by existing and needing to feed, and a desire not to be alone in its misery.
