Deckar Redqard

Deckar hails from Atlas and is attending Beacon to follow in the footsteps of his mentor. Outwardly, he appears to be a very quiet and contemplative young man. However those close to him know he is overcoming selective mutism as a result of severe social anxiety. He's unable to speak in most settings and he uses sign language to communicate. When he speaks, he's very blunt and direct, typically only saying a few words at a time. He tends to be very kind, compassionate and empathetic but eager to remove himself from situations he feels that he is unneeded in. His empathy is often a double edged sword as he is easily overwhelmed by the emotions of others. While he's very quiet and very hard to read outwardly, he's very proactive and is seldom deterred from acting. He likes making gestures toward others, expressing his feelings with actions as opposed to words.

Deckar's family owns a funeral home in Atlas. His exposure to the funerary process from a young age has given him a very unique perspective on death and grieving. He is incredibly reverent of the dead and passionate about seeing the deceased be memorialized. After being severely injured in the fall of Beacon, Deckar returned home to his family, who while upset that he left, is grateful he's alive.

Deckar's name can be spelled either "Decker" or "Deckar". "Deckar" is the more recent spelling but "Decker" is how it used to be spelled (like prior to 2018) and both are technically correct.

Deckar struggles with forming relationships with others, due to the significant communication barrier between him and most people he meets. He is very articulate and capable of sharing his thoughts and feelings, he is only willing to do so in settings where he feels completely comfortable and welcome.

Bolt Silverstone
Deckar's relationship with the leader of Team BDRQ is incredibly bare bones. Deckar is quiet and doesn't often voice his thoughts but follows Bolt's leadership without question and without issue, despite the fact that Deckar thinks Bolt is not a good leader. Bolt makes no effort to understand Deckar in their time at Beacon so they remain acquaintences until after the Fall of Beacon.

Rebecca Robinwyle
Initially, Deckar and Beck are both very reserved in their communication. Even though they're not particularly involved in each other's lives, they have a mutual baseline respect for one another that grows in their time in team BDRQ.

Quillan Larker
Deckar and Quill develop an incredibly close, almost familial bond with each other. They're both incredibly open with each other and place an immense amount of trust in the other. Quill reminds Deckar of his older sister and he feels a responsibility to be there for her.
Deckar is injured in the Fall of Beacon while trying to protect Quill. After team BDRQ disbands and Quill disappears, Deckar wears one of Quill's gloves, in fear that she may have died.

Cenwyn and Viorel Warren
Deckar holds a deep respect for his mentor Cenwyn and Cenwyn's daughter, Viorel and feels indebted to the Warren family for helping him find discipline and direction in life. Beyond Cenwyn training Deckar, Deckar sees him as a man of upstanding character and aspires to be like him. He also holds a deep respect for Viorel, despite Viorel's resentment of him.
