Sage

 OVERVIEW

Sage is the drummer of Pins N' Needles. A woman of many talents, from music, to tech knowledge, to rock n roll/indie historian.

 PERSONALITY

Sage used to be a closed off outcast in her youth. Since making the move from Florida to Oregon, Sage found herself coming out of her shell a lot more. She's become a more outgoing woman that likes to make her social outlets worthwhile and fun. This can vary from fun dates with her boyfriend, Hector, to hanging out with bandmates and talking to fans. Sage is an ambivert that slightly leans more towards introvert.

Sage is a do no harm, but take no shit kind of gal. Sage is the kind of person to fight more with words than violence, unless pushed over the edge. But she maintains a sarcastic edge to her.  

Sage doesn't open up easily when it comes to her past and personal life. Sage still struggles with insecurities and doesn't want people to see her being vulnerable (outside of her boyfriend and a few close friends). She's the kind of person to put on a positive front, even when she's struggling on the inside.

Sage is creative in multiple ways. Sage is a drummer, songwriter, and voice impressionist. She takes a lot of pride in her vocal range and musical ability. Though at the same time, she can be self-critical (aren't we all?). She's handy with technology, too. She knows her way around recording voices, instruments, and video. She also loves learning about black and indie rock history.

 HISTORY/BIOGRAPHY

Sage's parents ran a seafood restaurant down by a shore in Florida. Sage grew up around water quite a bit, and always had a fondness for the beach. Finding sea shells, swimming, and getting to see the occasional dolphin.
Sage struggled with fitting in. Sage was an outcast for as long as she could remember. She was labeled and "oreo" for liking rock music an "acting black enough". She was a bat that liked the water and aquatic aesthetics instead of something more gothic Top that off with being an effeminate AMAB child in conservative Florida.

Drumming was something she picked up in middle school; a great outlet for her teen angst. Sage's first drum set was an electronic one; as her parents thought a standard drum kit would be too loud. As a teenager Sage was deep into various kinds of music- from rock to jazz to blues, and would absorb any info she could about her favorite artists. In high school, Sage ended up joining her school's jazz band. The thought of being in a marching band in the Florida heat was a no-go. Plus she didn't want to bang just one measly drum; she wanted to drum on multiple!

Sage developed an eating disorder spawned by gender dysphoria. She felt that the only way she could grow breasts was by overeating. (WIP)

During her adolescence, Sage spent a lot of her free time on Tumblr. She met her future boyfriend, Hector, on that very website. Sage would lend her voice to some of his fandom comic dubs. They became really close to each other, and had each others' back for many years. With the two of them both being trans, Sage and Hector helped each other came to terms with their respective identities. At home on the computer, she practiced voices, progressively training hers to sound more feminine. She even recorded footage of herself playing drums. She'd dress more femininely when her parents were away.
At school,  Sage's  social circle was limited to a handful of social outcasts. (WIP)

Sage medically transitioned after moving out; around 19-20 years old. When she was 22, after many years of saving up and planning, Sage had moved to Oregon to live with Hector. Unlike the beaches of Florida, this new city had an active rock music scene and Sage just had to get in on it!! She found a flier for a band looking for a drummer, and knew she had to ring them up. There, she met Sam and Rina of Pins N' Needles, and meshed well with the band of misfits. She has been with the band for nearly a year.
In addition to being the drummer for Pins N' Needles, Sage is the one that mixes and edits their homemade videos and amateur song recordings. She's the social media wiz in the band. She still lends her voice to Hector's video projects here and there.
