Espicier is an Old French term for a spice-seller, in the same way a sommelier is (literally) a wine-waiter. Although the Modern French term "épicier" exists, it is more widely known as the term for "grocer" rather than specifically a seller of spices, which is why the Old French "espicier" has been chosen instead to represent Masala's job. Masala is a spice specialist who provides spices to Oil Slick's Caravan and any groups that come to trade. They have wide-ranging connections and if there's a spice you want, they have it or can get it.
