Sensible Independent Shy
Vana is a quiet and independent child who is used to taking care of herself. Having been essentially unsupervised from a young age, she's self-motivated and independent, and finds relying on others to be quite difficult. Has amassed a wide range of practical skills, such as cooking and housekeeping.
She remains a relatively cheerful girl, although she is prone to fits of depression and minor mood swings. Given the upheaval of her life, she has demonstrated remarkable resilience. The most concerning aspect is that she consistently underreports her emotional needs, and has difficulty reaching out for help.
Background
Vana was born to Dashiell Carmady and Mary Delmar during their brief marriage, and lived primarily with Mary, as Dashiell lived in the city. Even as an infant, Mary would bring Vana with her on her trips to music festivals and events. At age four, her parents divorced and Mary Delmar was awarded sole custody. The two of them lived full time in various communes and camps, many of which were short-lived or dangerous environments.
Dashiell retained regular contact with Vana, and contacted CPS in 1982 to report her unsafe living situation when he was made aware of it, and was awarded full custody of her in the ensuing court case. Vana moved in with her father to Eugene, Oregon and began public education for the first time. While she had not been formally educated before, she was tutored informally by her mother, Mary, and she performed well in a classroom setting.
The last catastrophic disruption came in April, when Vana's father Dashiell was shot dead in his home during an attempted revenge robbery by Antonino Peretti, a serial home invader whom Dashiell had, in his time as a lawyer, convicted twice for larceny. He had not accounted for Carmady's new profession leaving him at home more often than before. Vana was removed from school by a social worker and given an emergency placement.
Longterm Placement
Once Vana was in her foster placement, the search began for a longer term family to take her in. Her mother was unable to prove a more secure living situation than the one Vana was previous removed from, and was denied custody. Neither parent had any suitable surviving family - Mary Delmar is an only child with now deceased parents, and Dashiell Carmady's parents are both aging and infirm, while his elder brother is estranged and refused to consider taking Vana. Once that avenue had been exhausted, family friends of Dashiell began to be considered. Eventually, John-Henry Young, the son of Dashiell's former coworkers at X&X Law, was found to be suitable and accepted fostering Vana in what is hoped to be a long term placement.

Due to his family's relationship with Vana's deceased father - former coworkers at the law firm of Young's parents- John-Henry Young was reached out to as a potential foster parent for Vana. Despite his young age, he is well educated and has stable employment in the civic sector. Noted to have somewhat limited emotional availability, but clicked well with Vana.
Mary Delmar

Commonly called Minnie or Minerva, Mary Delmar is a member of the hippie movement and lives as a transient travelling across the United States, living in communes and camps. While she was awarded sole custody of Vana at age 4 during her divorce from Dashiell Carmady, it was eventually ruled that she was not providing a safe or stable environment for Vana.
When custody was removed and returned to Vana's father, Mary was determined to be a risk for parental child abduction and is only allowed supervised access with Vana. Her current location is unknown, and she has not had any contact with Vana since custody was removed.

Blue Eyes Brown Hair Sharply Pointed Nose
Vana is a young teen girl of short stature and notably underweight physique, due to prolonged childhood malnutrition. Although her living conditions have stabilized, she is prone to low weight due to a quick metabolism. She has bobbed brown hair, light brown skin, and blue eyes.

Education
Despite her lack of formal schooling until age 12, Vana has been unofficially educated by her mother, and is a strong self-directed learner who enjoyed reading. Teachers at her school in Eugene only had very postive comments, calling her a model student and a hard worker.

After her informal schooling, Vana was enrolled in middle school, and was given extensive placement tests before it waws determined she could be admitted with her age group. She was able to complete her final year of middle school despite a small drop in grades after the death of her father.
- During her time in middle school, she attended regular sessions with the school counsellor to ensure she was adapting to a school environment.
- While Vana is an excellent student, she is noted to struggle forming deep social bonds with her peers.

- Interests include rollerblading and rollerskating, soccer, MTV, Duran Duran, and shopping malls.
- Has an important keepsake in the form of a large stuffed rabbit that she has named Harry, it was a gift from her father that she considers her most important possession.
