Even with her tough exterior she has a constant fear of abandonment that came from her father leaving and starting another pride deeming root as useless. She also has very low self esteem coming from her mother who would constantly blame her for being a poor excuse of a lion and eventually abandoning her at a young age which made Root bury her emotions and pushing people away be scared to let other lions in to her life as to only be let down again.

Even though Root has a bad past she absolutely loves her adoptive father tamarind who has always cared and looked after her.
