- Ren doesn’t sleep the traditional amount when alive or dead. He tends to push himself and forgets to. While also believing that cleansing will take care of the days he forgets to sleep.
- An easy way to garner favor with him is to bring any sweet dessert, namely cookies.
- Ren is very okay with receiving and giving pain.
- Is from the same world as Adrian.
About
Ren is a privileged man thrust into an afterlife where the magic bestowed upon him is considered weak. Worse yet there is no easy way for him to get better at it without asking others for help. Something that he sees bothersome as he’ll have to repay the favor. Gone are the days where everything is handed to him should he want to learn it. Here, he’s treated like everyone else.
Having a high pain tolerance grants him a greater resistance to attacks while he’s out on the field. Not that he goes out on missions very often without someone to watch over him seeing as his magic is much like a glass cannon. It can add an extra bout of strength to the group, however, he’ll wear himself out the more he uses someone else’s power as his own.
Aside from that, Ren isn’t the type of person to care about much other than what or who interests him. The only time he’d dare to show any hint of the so-called normalcy he’s told he doesn’t have is when he’s around things he enjoys whilst not working on any of his projects.

"It’s just a little blood. You won’t even miss it."
Ren feels emotion far differently than others. There’s a lack of empathy and even then, his sympathy teeters more toward pity. If anything, a person’s emotional state has him curious on everything concerning it. This tickles the beginnings of his more sadistic nature, one that he tends to keep taped down as it scares people away. And if there are no people, there’s no one for him to use.
He doesn’t take much of an interest in other people in terms of their history. There’s no such thing as casual conversation with him unless someone else initiates it. And when they do, why are they? Regardless, if he’s broached on a subject that he’s well versed in or asked for his opinion, Ren has a habit to talk. And talk quite a lot at that to the point that he rambles on even when the other person has lost interest or can’t keep up. Most don’t give him the time.
Otherwise, he comes off a bit snide or cold. It keeps others from getting closer and if asked, he’ll say he doesn’t mind. As long as they’re useful to him in the long run it doesn’t matter if they’re friends.
While he might not admit it, Ren does grow attachments to people. Much like how he does with Adrian, Charmilla, and then Zye in turn. They’re people that interest him for whichever reason he finds. If not interest, curiosity on how they tick.
Ren is also very susceptible to praise. Whether it’s about what a good job he’s doing or they don’t know anyone that could work as hard as he does. The small strokes to his ego will have him more willing to hold a conversation with the person that does so. Unless he finds out they don’t mean it or they’re after something.

Blood Magic
There’s a limit to what Ren can and cannot do and for how long. His most valuable skill is being able to track someone via their blood and is more reliable/accurate as it’s using their essence. Taking someone’s blood to use as his new weapon/magic whether it’s a Star/Dark Star doesn’t give him prowess with it. The downside to his magic is that he has to train with that person’s power no different than they do. Increased use allows him to harness it easier and or more correctly.
In general, while using this magic he gets minor enhancements if used from a Star. If they’re more of a strength leaning fighter, he’ll be a bit sturdier. For instance, by taking Ilista’s blood he gets a bit of extra strength behind his attacks. If he were to use Callua’s blood, he’d be able to manipulate water to a minor extent.
He cannot, however, ingest the blood of the Celestials and Infernals without blow back as their magic/power is far greater than his own and his soul cannot handle it. If he makes a Blood Pact with someone, the enhancement he gets from using their blood increases a bit. He’ll find out much later on that if he keeps blood from a soul that passes on, the blood will vanish and leave the container empty. It prevents him from using their power unless they’re alive.
Weapons
Being a Dark Star, he doesn’t care to waste his well of magic on creating tools to use. Instead, Ren finds and curates his tools from various worlds he goes to. Including his home he sneaks back to now and then. He has a wide arrange of needles, knives, daggers, and the like on his person at all times. If it can draw blood, he’s put it in his collection.
Blood Pact
Ren creates a bond with someone he’s deeply connected with. The more he knows and has been around the person (especially while they’re using their power) the more he can harness theirs to a more fine-tuned extent. The more frequent he uses their blood, and in turn their power, the easier it is for him to adjust and harness it. The bonds that are created are established via an exchange of blood whether it’s by ingestion or through a wound.
Summary
Skin
Ren wanted for nothing in life. The only son of wealthy, distant parents meant he could do what he wanted when he wanted. Only the disapproving eyes of the servants watched him, unable to scold or tell him he did wrong. For if they did, one whimper toward his mother would send them scurrying for a new job.
Matters only get worse when he begins to bring home animals that he found dead or dying. His rather unusual hobby of trying to save some and figure out why the others died leads to him being kept away from society as a whole. Despite the fact that he could have excelled as a doctor considering his in depth studies. His parents don’t push him to do anything other than stay inside away from others and if he is to go out, he’s to have a detail of two personal bodyguards. They’re more to drag him home should he get himself into trouble.
Of course, he does go out. It’s why when he’s thirty-two, he comes across a teen being beaten up and it all falls into place. Animals can’t tell him anything while he’s working on them. Another human being can. It’s why he orders his bodyguards to take care of the bullies and bring him the petite form on the ground.
Ren takes the boy of fifteen home and tends to his bruises, cuts and scrapes. Each time he flinches, Ren is more intrigued by the reactions. When he finds out the boy’s name, Adrian, and that he has no family, Ren takes him in despite his parent’s wishes. While he never lays a hand on Adrian, it ignites a spark that he desires to go further and test his limits as well as others.
Asking for nothing in return, Ren takes care of Adrian’s every want or need. No different than the strays he would bring home when he was younger. He’d heal them up if he could and the servants would make sure they lived a good life in the house or find a home for them. The only thing is that Adrian is usually the one that’s on lookout when Ren sneaks out to find willing people or animals that he can work on.
Everything goes rather well for about four years. Until a young woman comes to him asking for help. That she knows he’s not a real doctor, but she doesn’t wish to have the baby she’s just found out she’s pregnant with. Worse yet, it’s looked down upon for her to do this. Illegal even. He takes the job, so to speak, on one condition. He needs time to figure out the best way to do it.
Upon helping her, it goes well and yet she doesn’t recover. When she passes, the trail leads back to him and a man that claims to own her comes knocking. While Ren can’t fathom what went wrong and the man won’t answer, Adrian tries to defend him from the attacking man. In the end, the man wrestles away from Adrian and stabs Ren several times with the dagger he brought. As Ren lay there dying, he looks over and for once, he does feel a bit upset as Adrian crumples to the ground next to him.
Marrow
Arriving in Solis, Ren adapts quickly as he always has. He harnesses his magic and learns it’s limitations. As well as the lack of uses. It’s watching Charmilla train others that he finds himself a bit underwhelmed at his own abilities. Noticing that Ren is always watching and never participating, Hax is the one that alludes to Ren’s magic being more than meets the eye.
Under Charmilla’s supervision, he’s given blood from several willing Dark Stars and he trains with her. During this time, he runs into Adrian who happens to be one of those willing to donate some of his blood for Ren. It allows them a chance to reconnect and at the same time, they don’t truly hang out like friends do. They link, but only to help each other out. Specifically when Ren gets in over his head and runs out of blood during a mission.
It’s some time later that Charmilla asks him to go on a mission for her. Undercover, tell no one, and do whatever it takes to blend in and gain favor with the leader of this Dark Surge. He eagerly accepts seeing as her offer is one he can’t refuse. The chance to work with her to a larger extend is all he wants.
And he does his job well. He befriends Soren, aligns their goals, and steps on whoever he needs to to stay in Soren’s good gracious. It also happens to be an excellent chance to gather more blood than he could ever hope for. His only obstacle is Ayre and her unrivaled devotion to Soren and his cause. While he can’t be sure, he knows she sees through him and his mask of working together. It’s exactly why he takes Zye’s offer without hesitation.
Bloody
Out with the old and in with the new, much later on once things have settled, Ren is given a station in one of the newly built rooms. From there he can research, catalog, and store blood of every Dark Star and Star. Of course, under the pretense that he’s only to use it with permission. Something he’s allowed more often than not if he has extra given. Regardless, it satiates his need to test the powers of others while stretching how far he can push his own.
Naturally, he’s allowed this freedom until he crosses a line.
Relationships
Adrian
Useful Person
It’s not odd or uncommon for people of the same world to run into each other. The strange part is how they knew each other prior to death. Upon realizing Adrian is also a Dark Star, Ren made sure to reestablish their connection. They can help each other and should Adrian need him, he’ll assist if he can. As long as Adrian knows he’s to return the favor.
Zye
The Willing One
Ren is far too aware that it’s easy to get what he needs from Zye. The man clearly sees reason and barters well. Under his supervision, Ren is allowed far more leash than the others would. Zye tells him it’s because he sees the use Ren’s magic has and that he’s important. While Ren pretends to dislike the company Zye gives him at times and flirts to make him uncomfortable, part of him appreciates that Zye doesn’t flinch around him. Much like Adrian.
Charmilla
Held Above Others
Her sheer prowess with her magic encourages Ren. The control and berth she has is beautiful and stunning. It’s the opposite of his “weaker” magic. A magic that can’t work without the aid of others. With her promise and Hax’s encouragement that his magic shouldn’t be looked at so simply and plainly, Ren aspires to be as proficient with his magic as she was. His new obsession so to speak.
