Character

History

At age three, Tom was separated from his mother after she attempted to cross the border to start a new life. He was then taken in by a corporation that targeted illegal immigrants to trial highly illegal experimentation, and was raised in a facility housing subject children. At age ten, he and several others managed an escape across the state border.

The Facility

The only clear result gained from experimentation was a break in the rift between this reality and a separate one, which has stabilized for the most part with infrequent lapses since childhood, roughly once every few months. Due to this being detrimental and unable to be used for military purposes, the experiments on him were deemed as a failure. These breaks in the rift mean his body dematerializes, mostly in singular areas of the body. These areas are fully formed in the second dimension, leaving behind a translucent shadowy mass in their place in this dimension. In the rare occassion his whole body dematerializes, all that is left is a shadow until his body returns. If his body is disrupted during this time, upon returning he becomes more monster-like until the next break in the rift. Whilst there were many issues in the results, the improvement from Fives failures lead to major breakthroughs and the subsequent success in the experiments on Eight.

Post Facility

After being separate from Six and Four during their escape, Tom moved from living on the streets to secretly living in a large library, evading the librarian and other workers as much as possible. While not nearly enough to make up for his lack of schooling, his consistent reading improved his English skills and general knowledge, eventually developing a personal interest in crime stories that, combined with past trauma and a severe lack of emotional understanding and wellness, would lead to his eventual decision to seek revenge on those who hurt him in his past and those who mirrored them.
