General Info

Name: Elon Wise

Race: Gargoyle

Age: 73

Gender: Male

Height: 8'6"

Personality Traits: Thoughtful / Stubborn / Brutish / Dependable / Consistent

Personality:

On first impression, Elon is quiet and rather unreactive to ongoing events around him. His placid and easily amused demeanor belies a harsh and selfish personality. He is unafraid of acting in his and his family's best interests, no matter what actions this may lead him to- both in violence but also in humility. For those he loves, he shows his affection through tussling and teasing. This normally manifests in badgering questions- questions about their intentions, their desires, their preferences- and though he might dismiss the responses outwardly, they penetrate his hard head and digest slowly over time.

Elon enjoys holding power over others, which is partially due to his nature as a gargoyle, and the reason he chose his profession. He prefers to do his tormenting more low key however, as he is kept in check by being called out by people he perceives to hold power or standing- Elon can even put on a smiling (if not discomforting) face. Because of this, for Elon, the only thing better than cruelty is justified cruelty- and one should do their very best to never be the target of his vengeance. It can be said that Elon is a huge fan of the dueling system put in place for settling disputes.

One thing he freely enjoys is poetry-- flowery words bring out much more of a response from him, as his heavy and dense thoughts unfold Into an expression of unashamed darkness and feeling.

He sometimes pretends to lose his temper, but he is more in control than he lets on. Elon dislikes when people consider him dimwitted or slow due to his size, but it doesn't singe his pride as much as much as being considered soft or weak. For someone who is so eager to put down others, he can't stand being attacked the same way and will hold grudges.

Despite his penchant for vengeance and intimidation, he does make a reliable caregiver. If instructed to protect a person by someone he cares about, he will lay his life down, even if he hates that person. Likewise, he would never needlessly damage someone under the roof of his profession, as he takes great pride in his work.

Magic

Area of Expertise: Gargoyles of Elon's kind are draconic fascimiles-- they were made by men, mimicking the form of dragons, in order to guard places of magic. Much like the dragons whose blood and bone they were quickened from, their magic mirrors dragons in the abilities of longevity, elemental control, and shape changing, while additionally being influenced by their artificial origins.

Abilities:

STATUESQUE FORM: Gargoyles can take a bestial form as part of their draconic heritage. This form is only stonelike in appearance-- meant to be a camouflage-- and is in reality both as flexible and hard as a dragon's hide.

EARTH AFFINITY: Like dragons, a gargoyle has affinity with one element-- they're known to spout water or fire, for example. Elon's affinity lies with the earth-- though he can be cut, crushed, bruised, or broken by most other means, he cannot be harmed by impact with rocks or earth. This allows him to survive falls from great heights, and he'd probably survive a landslide minus some lashings from rogue trees. He can move large amounts of earth easily, chucking rocks like they were large boulders the size of a small boulder- but he does not have the ability to manipulate (freely change the shape of or levitate) the earth however, nor manifest new amounts of it.

LONGEVITY: Gargoyles aren't as long lived as true dragons, but they still enjoy a prolonged lifespan of a couple hundred years. It is common for them to enter hibernation and leave their stone husks behind when they finally do die.

Limitations:

SUN FATIGUE: Exposure to sunlight is exhausting. Elon will frequently doze off if left in the sunlight, even lapsing into statuesque form if he's left idle enough.

BONE DRY: Gargoyles of Elon's line thirst after blood or fear. They get stuck in statuesque form if they do not have access to either, and also lose the ability to use their elemental affinity if starved.

Personal Lore

Early Life: Elon's family came from a long line of guardians who accompanied a coven of witches from France to the New World in the 1690s. The coven gained infamy in the magical world, as they masquaraded among humans under religious pretenses with their magic as 'miracles' and even partook in witch hunts to snuff out rival covens. The coven ended in vengeful slaughter when the witches tried to exterminate the gargoyles as 'demons' to gain standing in their human community.

Elon's grandfather took refuge in the wilderness harboring a distrust of other magical communities, but Elon's mother was an adventurous and rebellious spirit. She travelled as much as she was able in her young adulthood, and when she bore Elon she left him to be raised by his grandfather. It was a quiet life, and though his grandfather was a crude and emotionally constipated person, he did everything he could to try to be there for his grandson. He instilled values for strength and independence, reliability, and a deep distrust for humans and witches into young Elon.

Moving to Walpurgis: By the time Elon's grandfather reached the end of his life, he had decided it was better to send Elon off to live among others rather than be entirely isolated in their mountain home. There was no arguing with him-- Elon would go live in Walpurgis, and Elon's grandfather would find somewhere to fall asleep one final time. Young Elon felt betrayed and abandoned, and harbored a lot of bitterness and resentment over this, but over time was quickly drawn to the variety of folks in the town and the lives they led there.

His desires to connect with people, but also to hold power over them, led him towards health care and the studies that went alongside that. Despite his ponderous demeanor, his mind was keen and he had plenty of time to hone his knowledge. Still, the only person he could convince (aka intimidate) into accepting him into apprenticeship was the town dentist.

Present Day: Elon works as a dental surgeon in the town, sharing a practice with a tooth fae. In part, he threatens townsfolk into maintaining their dental health, but most of these threats are gentle and well intended and rarely acted upon. Though he feeds sometimes off of blood, the steady amount of free and effortless fear he gets from solely the waiting room are enough for him to subsist.

Elon can frequently be found spending free time at the bath house, sharing a domestic partnership of sorts with Lana Bywater. Though they aren't married or romantically involved, they share a desire to raise a family and have two children, Charly and Maline. Elon does not have any patience for threats posed against any of the Bywaters, and is more than happy to duel in any of their steads.

Race Lore: Gargoyles is a name applied to various creatures (imps, constructs, demons, and possessions) who resemble statues. Elon's line of gargoyle were created by witches- they were constructs quickened with dragon's blood, meant to resemble dragons in appearance and power, and instructed to guard places of magic. Being guards, they were designed to feed off of blood and fear, and to have strong attachments to their purpose and their people. These first constructs soon fed off of centuries and centuries of blood and magic, losing their eternity and becoming flesh and blood themselves. Elon is a descendant of these first beings. He and his kin are still of draconic descent, influenced by that original magic, but also subject to the rules of their creation at the hands of mankind.
