Evander is the oldest of three boys in the Addams family, from Virbank City, Unova. Their father was a proud sailor, while their mother was a popular actress. With extremely busy parents , Evander acted as a father figure for his little brothers, Elio and Murray, so he didn’t have the chance to do his Pokemon journey at 10 years-old like every other kid his age. He envied them, but kept himself busy by taking care of his brothers. He learned quickly how to maintain a house: cleaning, cooking, laundry, you name it.

Life before Uva Academy

When Elio and Murray became older and left to do their life, Evander was super excited: finally, he could do his own Pokémon journey! He looked forward to traveling with his partner Oshawott, but a tragedy ended that dream quickly: his father died suddenly of a heart attack and Evander had to take over his job as a sailor. Evander was 20: that destroyed him, but he complied.

He even took a liking to sailing after a few years: even his Oshawott enjoyed it. It wasn’t the Pokemon journey he expected, but he liked it. Until that famous storm that changed his life forever. Evander and Oshawott were lost in the sea, when a strong storm happened. The both of them tried to stay still while it lasted, but a hoard of Sharpedo attacked the boat, and Evander fell into the sea. Oshawott jumped straight into the water, and the rest of the memory is fuzzy. Evander remembered a Sharpedo attacking him; and that hurted so bad that he lost consciousness.

When Evander came back to his senses, he was laying in a hospital bed with his right arm missing. According to doctors, Evander was saved by another sailor when the storm calmed down, while Oshawott - now a Dewott - managed to fight off the Sharpedo to protect him. The otter Pokémon always had an eye missing, so Evander told it that they now match. However, the doctors also told him that the Sharpedo damaged his insides as well: he will never be as athletic as before, but he could have a nice, quiet life.

A life without traveling. Evander…could never become the Pokémon Champion that he wanted to be as a kid.

Today

For the past 3 years, Evander had been the Battle Studies teacher at Uva Academy, Paldea. Even if he never traveled, he studied Pokémon battles and trained a team of his own. He’s a strict, but understanding teacher.
