- Born in Vivec City where his fathers are House Hlaalu councilmen. Growing up, he didn't like the corruption that he noticed within the House, and wanted to become someone who could do good in the world
- in his youth he and his family would occasionally travel around Morrowind on various vacations so he is familiar with most of the province save for Solstheim
- the only time he went outside of the province as a child/young adult is to visit Falneri, his cousin, and her side of the family where they lived in Chorrol
- after leaving home as an adult (~20) he began to travel around Tamriel for the next four decades, and aside from the usual adventures he didn't run into too much trouble, until he decided to pay a long overdue visit to see Falneri, at which point she had joined a local cult of Sanguinites. After a night of drinking and dancing and a lot of other things Kovaus doesn't remember, he somehow ends up arrested and, as a prisoner, transported on a boat back to Morrowind...
