Bogna, originally Bogmiła, is a Masurian bog witch who has chosen to live outside of society in a tiny hut she built for herself. She's in her late twenties and has been on her own at least since she was a teenager, leaving her deeply comfortable with solitude. She considers herself her own best friend and is quite protective of her life and space.
Her home is right where the forest meets the wetlands, almost impossible to see in the tall grass and completely isolated from the world. This suits her just fine, as she's an eccentric and self-sufficient type who truly prefers her own company and would be perfectly happy to live and die alone. She hunts for rabbits to feed herself and sometimes fishes in nearby lakes, occasionally receiving gifts from the local peasants in exchange for a spell or a curse. She's friends with local animals, mostly frogs, and feeds feral cats and foxes that pass by. There is also a large wild dog who lives in the woods not far from Bogna's house, in a small doghouse she built for him, and he keeps the wolves at bay.
When the Teutonic Order comes to Masuria to force their faith on its inhabitants, her way of life is threatened. Although she's not without her defences, and finding her hut is all but impossible for someone who doesn't know where to look, Bogna harbours something of an interest in the invaders. Her hubris prompts her to seduce a devoted Teutonic Knight.
