Kindhearted Intelligent Empathetic
Mantis is known for being a welcome breath of fresh air in her workspace. She's a kindhearted person, to a fault, and believes in the good in everyone. She finds it easier to work and prioritize things under less stress, and applies that to her department, thus garnering her reputation as someone who is relaxed and values the quality of life under her watch. Mantis is also someone who, while fairly social and outgoing, prefers the company of plants and spends a lot of her time in the greenhouse she's been provided. She researches a variety of plants that originate from vastly different places, yet she takes an almost motherly care to them, showing more of how sweet she is. Though she values a proper schedule that allows for her employees to thrive both mentally and in their own work, she herself is a hard worker that's gone above and beyond, often to the detriment of her own health. It's admirable, though hypocritical that she avoids her own advice. Mantis also takes to putting others before her, gladly willing to take falls and sacrfice her own well being so someone else can survive.
Background
Growing up on a different planet, Mantis was surrounded by people not unlike her. Intelligent, educated people who had deserted a lab and were starting up their own society elsewhere, she found her life full of not only the plants she'd truly grow to love and find nothng but wonde in; but also find out that she had to work hard to get somewhere. Her parents were very loving, and took care of her, but as many, many resources ran thin and the community was being threatened by the very facility that they intended to forever stay away from, an attack is scaled onto the community. She's taken, and used as a bargaining chip, and when the demands aren't met, Mantis is taken off planet to Lab Theta, on a different planet. She's in her teenage years by the time this happens.
LAB THETA
Mantis, due to her educated upbringing and general natural intellect and hardworking nature, finds the rigorous environment in Theta to be something she can truly adapt to. Albeit, limited as she has little to no access to plantlife, and the wastelands surrounding the lab; while it doesn't show, her mental health does decline quite a bit, and she buries herself in more work to compensate. It doesn't take long for her to climb the ranks despite her origins and mental health. Mantis climbs to her position as Head of Theta's Biomedical department at age 20. This is when she goes under the required procedures, and during her first few years in her high position, she gains the eye of the overseer. Once Theta's desertion occurs, Mantis takes the fall and cuts off her own arm, and submits herself to Conquest so her colleagues can be free and live normal lives. This leaves her at the mercy of the Overseer in a dire relationship.
Connection
Many don't even know Conquest's name. Her position as Overseer is all she's known as even among most of the Heads. The Heads, as her secondhand, are typically kept at distance. Mantis, due to her young arrival and promotions, well, quickly caught Pestilence's eye. Once the desertion occured, Mantis agreed to fully give herself to Pestilence, due to that gnawing obsession her higherup was growing for her, and this leads to a strained, ultimately harmful and very imbalanced relationship between them. Mantis by all means, does not love Conquest, but she's submitted to her, and this total submission allows not only Theta to keep running, but for the rest of the heads (who have deserted) to live new lives. Mantis is left to suffer, but she is glad that even in her own torment, in her hell, she'd never take back this decision.
Steele worked as the Robotics Head, and she met Mantis due to her own health issues and collaborations for biological cybernetics. They grew close due to their collective interests in what was beyond the wastes surrounding Theta, and Steele; having only ever seen images of plantlife, found herself in the greenhouse for the first time asking Mantis if it was possible to turn one of her cybernetic arms into something as beautiful as said greenhouse. This kicked off their friendship officially, and they only grew closer over time. Mantis ultimately uses one of Steele's old cybernetics to replace her arm after the Desertion, and she leaves it virtually unchanged, to keep her memory of a dear friend alive. Steele, on the other hand, plots and plans ways with her mechs and robotics to try and find a way to get Mantis back.

- She enjoys sweet coffee! Though she doesn't complain much if its different.
- Due to her required procedures from gaining her postion as a Head; Mantis, when under heavy stress, gains certain bug or bug-like features, the most notable being a centipede tail, and mandibles.
- The markings on her body are natural and she's always had them, they're just a trait from her species. They all glow a dull red in the dark.
- Often likes sleeping in her greenhouse. Said greenhouse was a gift from Conquest within her first few years as a department head.
- Her two pieces of hair that stick up like antennae do emote with her.
