Appearance
Nate is a great example of an "everyman," which is to say nothing about him stands out.
He's got an average height, an average build, and genrally has nothing that would make him visually stand out among a crowd.
He's well kept and likes to keep himself clean and tidy.
Personality
Nate is easily summed up as a non-confrontational and kind dude, someone who's happy to take over a shift for someone who's struggling. He's a model friend.
He's also a chronic people pleaser with a shocking inability to say no. He hates the idea of upsetting other people, and possibly losing them as a consequence. Because of this, Nate can often bite off more than he can chew.
Somewhat shy and anxious, Nate tends to only have a small circle of friends, not venturing outside of it very often. However, that tends to mean he cares for his current friends with extra vigour.
He's organised and has a good memory, always remebering birthdays or anniversaries, and exactly what to get the lucky person celebrating.
Powers
For a very long time, Nate didn't know what his power was. He understood that there must be something, but not what.
He felt emotions a lot more than he used to, and soon realised he could tell what others were feeling. For a while he thought this was his main power.
It was completely by accident that he figured out he could control minds; after an arguement with Dáire went south fast, he yelled a command and Dáire followed it without any reservations.
He hates his power greatly, feeling entirely immoral when he does it. He hasn't found a situation that's required it yet.

Background
— Younger Years.
Nate was raised in a heavily Christian household, and he didn't experience much as a child becuase he was incredibly sheltered.
His parents fed him many bigoted ideals, mixed in with genuine life lessons. This was all excused through the lens of the religion.
At 17, during his sixth form experience, Nate found himself falling in love with another boy in his year. It was an incredibly distressing for him.
Fearing what his parents would think, he got together with his now-wife to please them.
He went on to get his A-levels, and then continued pushing himself to get his Bachelor's degree in English studies.

Newly 22 and with a Bachelor's degree behind him, Nate started working his dream job - being a librarian.
It was slow going at the start, working up from being an assistant to a proper librarian.
At 26, him and his girlfriend got engaged. It made him nervous, given no one but him knew that she was only around to hide his true sexuality. He tried to forget that part.
Their marriage went down 3 years later, and his parents told him that they were proud that he was following a good path. He tries to forget that night too.
He lived a simple, quiet life after that, just getting by while supporting his pregnant wife.

After finding out that his old life was practically dead, Nate felt two things: complete, mind numbing fear, and peace.
Of course he's nervous, he is incredibly aware that he could die at any moment at the hands of the doctors, the guards, or even the other people kept prisoner.
But at the same time, he's happy that he finally doesn't have to pretend to be someone he isn't.
If he can get up the nerves to tell anyone.
Relationships
Bo
Nate trusts Bo with his life, finding solidarity within the first person he met in the prison they found themselves. And maybe, just maybe... he feels a little more.
Dáire
Nate fears Dáire, the sort of primal fear that makes him want to run away whenever he sees it. It doesn't help that Dáire is comfortable to threaten and manhandle Nate when needed.
Laila
Laila is a calming, almost motherly presence, and Nate finds solace in that. She's always ready to comfort others, and she was equally quick to comfort Nate during his hard times.
Myles
Nate likes Myles' upbeat, bright-side-of-life attitude that gets people through even the hardest days. He thinks sometimes she can be naive, but overall they're a team player who Nate respects.
Rudy
Rudy's levelhead and logistical stance, mixed with his humourous outlook on life meshes well with Nate, and the two often talk about being the newest subjects and how it feels.
Svan
Nate appreciates how hard it must be for Svan to keep a neutral view on everything, especially other people's problems. They're a wonderful listener, and Nate could talk to them for hours.
Andrei
Andrei isn't much of a talker, and spends most of his time around Dáire, so Nate doesn't hang around him much.
Annabel
Annabel is somewhat strict, and rather teacher-like, but Nate likes that about her. He talks to her quite a bit, especially given her closeness to Laila.
Arlo
Arlo is a loud and slightly annoying presence, but Nate thinks he can be ok, in small doses.
Carmen
Carmen is another friend of Dáire, acting almost like its lackey, but when the two are alone they get along fine.
Dane
Dane can seem very scary, with hir imposing presence, but ze are very soft-spoken and comforting.
Dottie
Out of Arlo and Rene, Dottie is the loudest of them. He has a larger than life attitude that grates on Nate.
Flynn
Flynn is a laid-back and generally very easy to talk to, which Nate likes very much about him.
Maya
Maya is another person who hangs around with Dáire, but she is much kinder to Nate than he expected. He likes her enough.
Rene
The best way to describe Rene is to compare them to a loud brick wall. Them and Nate haven't talked much. Nate is fine with that.
Robin
Robin is generally non-serious and silly, finding a way to turn anything into a joke, but also has their serious moments.
Soren
Soren can be a little reclusive, but once they open up they're incredibly bubbly and joyful. They've warmed up to Nate a lot.
Sylvain
Sometimes Sylvain can be a lot, but his genuine attempts at seeing the best in everything makes Nate feel a little better.
Tia
Tia doesn't talk a lot to Nate, and he doesn't see a lot of her either way, but the times they have she's been very polite.
Zain
Zain is slightly childish in his delivery of certain things, but he has a big heart and a lot of care for others.
