Alarmed by his blackened heart and vengeful ideals, an Enchantress (who looks awfully familiar...) casts a spell upon one Robert Callaghan, turning him into the hideously disfigured Yokai. Unless he can learn forgiveness for a past grievance before the enchanted flame in the castle's hearth burns out, he's damned to stay this way forever. Elsewhere, a beautiful heiress to her eccentric uncle's fortune grows tired of being treated differently because of her status. Brighid longs to strike out on her own, viewed not as a delicate rose but as something malleable. But she gets her wish much sooner than she expected when her Uncle Alistair suddenly goes missing on what was meant to be a short business trip. Much to her horror, Brighid finds that he has been taken prisoner by a hideous beast! So what choice has she, truly, but to take his place? Besides, there's something almost... fascinating about this Yokai figure, in a certain light. She's sure she could get used to this, especially when for once in her life she is being treated with real, human disdain!
