A normal school day between Leona & Suzi while they were mutually pining and switching between wanting to be close to each other and being annoyed by their attraction.

"He is mad
She is also mad
He has had it up to here with her sarcasm

No, I've never been that nice
If you're surprised
It's your own fault"

I could have transcribed the entire song here because this is exactly what an everyday fight was like between Leona & Suzi (and their relationship for most of the time before they started dating).

Suzi Manyoya, the Queen of Mixed Signals. She had Leona losing sleep over where they stood for a good year before they finally got together. Leona had his moments too, but nothing like miss Birdy herself.

More mixed signals (but with a confession, at least).

"Your mouth is a revolver firing bullets in the sky

There's a line in this song about trying to get together with someone for a long time that goes with Leona & Suzi perfectly, but I like this part because of how well it describes how Leona sees Suzi and himself (especially the line about the stars after Tamashina Mina...iykyk).

Love in my arms and the sun in my eyes
I feel safe in the 5am light
You carry my fears as the heavens set fire"

Despite the nerves that come with being in a secret relationship, Suzi feels very calm whenever she's alone with Leona. She also found that she sleeps a lot better when she's with him.

"Stars shining bright above you
Night breezes seem to whisper "I love you"
Birds singin' in the sycamore trees
Dream a little dream of me"

Heh, get it? Cause Leona's always sleep- *SHOT*
(But also because they spend a lot of time in Leona's room at night and usually end up falling asleep together)

Thoughts of you consume"

Suzi always thought her feelings towards Leona were very inappropriate, but logic didn't change them or made them go away. The thought didn't go away when they started dating either - if anything, it got worse, but what could she do?
(Also, bonus reference to them spending time together at night)

I don't usually give in to peer pressure

Liking Leona has made Suzi do a lot of things that she wouldn't have done otherwise (their general relationship being one of them); while some are harmless and others stress her out a little bit, in the end she doesn't regret any of them as long as she can be with him.

"And that's the thing about illicit affairs
And clandestine meetings and longing stares
It's born from just one single glance

A million little times"

Classic secret relationship blues that Suzi beats herself over.

Another reference to having to be away from each other during the day, especially when they have to go back to the Sunset Savanna.

Even through the ups & downs and the new/familiar problems in their relationship, Suzi & Leona are very close and mostly try to resolve things together, especially those that affect both of them.

"I tell myself you don't mean a thing

But when you're not there, I just crumble"

Separation blues...

"'Cause in my heart and in my head
I'll never take back the things I said"

Before the start of (and sometimes during) their relationship, both Leona & Suzi would go a little overboard when fighting, and said things that deeply hurt the other. Even after apologizing and making up, they knew the damage their words had done and regretted them.

(They also went through a brief breakup after graduating from NRC that deeply affected Suzi, since it had been caused it by some things she said.)

Breakup/potential make-up blues...

Both an apology and a peace offering from Leona to Suzi, after they reconciled and he (finally) began to express his feelings better. Also, the "sing me to sleep" was just too prefect for them.

Is the same through all these years
Not changing, not changing anything at all"

More reconciliation bliss, this time with the promise of changing and improving things.

As corny as it sounds, their breakup made their relationship so much stronger once they got back together that they both felt stupid for breaking up in the first place.

I could also transcribe all the lyrics to this song, it's like it was written specifically for Leona & Suzi, I couldn't believe it the first time I heard it.

This is basically their theme song once their relationship goes public.
