"Midori"

Many years ago - decades perhaps, no one knows - a human child was found missing one arm and one leg, bleeding from a forcibly emptied eye socket, and left to die in the streets of Old Kamigawa. None of the passers-by saw their pain. None saw their injuries. None saw them fading. Nobody noticed the dark red blood staining the stones beneath their feet - or at least, nobody acknowledged it.

Nobody except the leader of the Assassin's Guild from their spot on a rooftop, who had been watching the young human for a long time. This mysterious being, covered head to toe in obscuring magic and indigo cloth, noticed an unusual talent in the child - an ability to go seemingly unseen, almost as though they were invisible... no, more like... the child seemed to bend reality around them to go unperceived. The being theorized that this ability was the reason no one was coming to their aid.

Well, they thought, jumping down from their post and scooping the dying child into their arms, it would be a shame to let such a useful talent go to waste...

"Shirohana Midori" is a name they use when one is required for infiltration. They have no identity beyond this, and feel as though they have no need for one. "Midori" is a perfectly androgynous cyborg, living their life in secret as a high-ranked member of the Assassin's Guild in the Neon Dynasty of Kamigawa. They appear as a young adult human of legal drinking age and can flawlessly present as either gender, depending on what is required to get in and get the job done.

"Midori" has no interests, hobbies, or life outside of their work for the Guild - the Assassin's Guild is set up almost in the style of the yakuza, and the leader has traded the cyborg prosthetics to "Midori" for a lifetime of service, something that is given freely and loyally to the one who saved their life that night. They display no active magical or mechanical talents of their own, only a passive ability to bend people's perception of them so as to appear completely harmless, or even cloak their presence entirely. This, combined with top-notch training in stealth, poisons, quick takedown strikes, and martial self-defense, makes them incredibly dangerous.

"Midori" is a complete sociopath with no friends, love interests or sexual partners whatsoever. Their knowledge of the subjects comes strictly from studying books and video essays in order to convincingly blend in with normal people. They are capable of playing along with making friends and seducing people, but once you're where they want you, you'll wind up drugged or poisoned or - if you're lucky - devastatingly heartbroken as they leave you hanging and rob you blind. The most unlucky ones are usually found dead the next morning, with no clues as to who killed them and why.

"Midori" is sometimes willing to work with a partner, someone else in the Guild, but only if absolutely necessary. It is harder for their ability to effectively cloak multiple people, with too many people causing real strain on them and risking everyone's cover. For this reason, they usually work alone, though they do try to be at least civil with other Guild members.
