"it's a simple calculation, i win, then you lose. you thought you were better than me. now you know the truth."
everyone knows you don't want captain witherfang after you. stories say he's cold and cruel, carelessly kills in the blink of an eye. it wasn't until his disappearance that people didn't fear speaking of him, and it took a year or two before the fear and dread of his return settled down. he's either zealously revered by his followers or feared and shunned by nonbelievers. back then, he was a crazed and power hungry man who seemed to fall further into his curse the more he fed it.
his reputation has died down since he disappeared, and he's been able to explore his sense of self in silence. skully is a bit erratic and unpredictable, you never can know who you're getting when you're speaking to him. occasionally, cthuhlu's influence causes him to be mocking and cruel. by nature, he's a charming and mischievious person who seeks entertainment and fulfillment in hopes it will spark something in his heart. he is a neutral soul who feels numb most of the time, but he's resigned himself to this fate.

BACKGROUND
CHILDHOOD
the second born child to cthuhlu worshippers who only doted on their firstborn son, raising him to be the perfect vessel. skully was viewed as a backup plan or last resort, and skully was always aware of the fact that his parents nor cthuhlu thought him worthy of such a title. skully spent most of his childhood alone, often trying to get verity's attention as he grew more and more busy with his studies. skully ended up spending much of his time with the elders listening to their tales of cthuhlu or recalling horrid nightmares and eldritch horrors.the lure of being the vessel of such a worshiped creature overwhelmed him and he sabatoged the ritual, taking verity's title and allowing an angry cthuhlu into his soul.
ADOLESCENCE
after the fall of his family's manor due to his own actions, skully was overwhelmed with the new presence within him as well as his possible murder of their parents. skully was young but took to leadership quick, using his charm and cthuhlu's fear aura to gather a crew and a ship for his journey.somewhere down the line he got greedy and made a deal with lolth and was tricked by her because he was young and arrogant. the loss of his soul drew him even more mad, and drove him on a ramage to retrieve it. this was his prime piracy era, which was sad due to how young he truly was. these actions only worsened as he aged and gained more experience and power, as cthuhlu grew alongside him.
ADULTHOOD
his actions became so frequent and severe that verity had no choice but to seal him away, in which skully lived hundreds of his lifetimes on loop in a groundhog day situation from the moment he sabatoged the ritual. this is where he truly fused with cthuhlu, as he grew insane with solitary confinement and had no defenses against his control. in a sense, skully gave himself up in order to escape from eternal suffering. when he was freed by neuvieh and the others, he was sure it was still another sick trick or timeline. he still struggles to reconnect reality, and with the fall of tiamat and the temporary disappearance of cthuhlu, he is left with his own thoughts for the first time in innumerable lifetimes.
RELATIONSHIPS
he wishes he would hate him forever and never forgive him, but the truth is he'll love him forever. it's not as though he doesn't blame verity for what he did, he's deeply angry and hurt, but he feels a deeper love for him beneath it all.
skully took fast interest in the changeling, his witch sight seeing through their disguise and becoming interested. he keeps an eye on them to learn more, typically through his own unnerving schemes and jokes.
neuvieh was one of the few people he recognized from his past lives in the talisman, and he cared for him in his own twisted and confused way. he continues to help him through their pact, and is starting to grow fond of him.
while they didn't get off on the right foot initially, ruby immediately disliking him for chaining neuvieh, it seemed that ruby needed someone of skully's calliber to deal with his affliction. skully's been growing fond of him.

- all of his wounds were self inflicted, and prides himself on having never been touched by an enemy's blade. that is, aside from the wound on his side that he won't reveal the story of...
- skully had a sister his age that kept him company when he was younger, but she was one of the victims of the fall of his manor and he has since forcibly forgotten about her, though she often visits him in his dreams
- he likes to pierce his body or remove his teeth to represent a trophy to celebrate, removing his eye having been his greatest trophy in his mind
