ABOUT

"I'm not a violent dog... I don't know why I bite."

As a high elf, it is only natural that Neuvieh is arrogant and full of himself, even to the point of looking down on others of his own race. However, unlike most high elves, nothing in his life has been handed to him on a silver platter. Instead, he has spent his every moment being used by others. A majority of his life has been spent as his father's punching bag, failing to meet his impossibly high set expectations over and over again, only to get treated poorly and abused for his lack of inherent magical ability. This has lead him to become a bitter, prickly, and cold person, feeling as though he is undeserving of love and friendship if he is not useful in some capacity. Despite this attitude, Neuvieh is also lonely- isolated for most of his life by no fault of his own, he has never really had friends or even had the chance to make any. He is practically incapable of opening up to others on account of always being ostracized and different no matter the group he finds himself in, and this has made it even harder for him to make connections. Even when he wants to be comfortable and friendly around others, he has a tendency to push them away. He has a propensity for making people angry and shoving them past their breaking point until the consequences bite back at him, and miserably, he doesn't even know why he reacts that way- the world has never been kind to him. Neuvieh wants to care about people, and have others care about him in return, but he has never quite learned how to be vulnerable. He has spent so much time being miserable, bad thing after bad thing happening to him, that he just hopes to get a break and find a purpose for his existence beyond his suffering being entertainment for others.

DESIGN

  • his ears are long and have limited movement range, and they move with his expressions/emotions. the left has three piercings and the right is an industrial piercing.
  • his braid is required, it's only on his left side.
  • the scar on the right side of his face is required!
  • he's 5'6! about average height tbh. i would say short for a high elf though.
  • his talisman is always required! he wears it all the time so don't forget it :3

BACKGROUND

CHILDHOOD

Neuvieh is the fourth born child of the Ostoroth name, an incredibly well respected high elf family and the leading heads of High Ever. Of course, there is one thing that sets him apart from the rest of his kin: Neuvieh was not born with any inherent magical abilities, something that the Ostoroth family has taken pride in for generations. From birth, Neuvieh was looked down upon by his father, and he spent most of his childhood as a scapegoat for all of his father's problems, dealing with a lot of both verbal and physical abuse growing up because he never was able to measure up to what was expected of him. And, unfortunately, he is the spitting image of the man who mistreated him so poorly, which only made it all worse that he was not a prodigy. Neuvieh was often was locked away in his room, by manner of not wanting the family to be seen with such a shameful child, as well as being forced to study magic in hopes he would muster any sort (to no avail). His older siblings Prysillian and Vasha are the ones who raised him for the most part, though neither is particularly the best influence or parent, so it's not as if he has had the proper rearing. Not long into his early adolesence, his mother has another child who DOES have magical abilities, and this makes everything even worse for Neuvieh. He's an outcast all throughout his younger years, and it certainly does not bode well for the person he becomes.

TEENS

The pressure and horrible treatment from his father mounting all throughout his childhood and well into his teenage years, Neuvieh becomes rather sour as he ages. Despite Prys and Vasha's attempts to foster magic within him, nothing seems to work, leaving Neuvieh to feel useless, guilty, and alone. One day, while browsing the house library, he comes across a hidden tome discussing warlock pacts, and becomes immediately obsessed with the idea of making a pact so that he can gain magic and finally become the son his father always wanted him to be. Eventually, with enough research, he makes a pact with a deity from the Shadowfell: a shadow dragon named Sibilant Shade. Sibil promises to provide him with magic and to fix his family so long as he do her bidding, and he is more than happy to agree to her terms. In accepting the pact, he is gifted a weapon made of shadows: Nightstrike, a powerful longsword. Wielding this sword, along with powerful Hexblade magic, Neuvieh rushed to his father, prepared to finally be accepted and loved. Instead, however, Neuvieh was met unbridled rage and true looks of horror. Rather than being welcomed and finally shown love, Neuvieh's father is declares him a scourge on the Ostoroth name for making such a foul pact, permanently exiling him from High Ever; if he were to return, he would be killed. Neuvieh leaves with nothing but the clothes on his back and a small bag of belongings that he could barely scramble together before he is kicked out. Though his father let him escape, he put a warrant out for his arrest, and Neuvieh flees in fear, not knowing what to do with his life.

CURRENT LIFE

After leaving behind his family, Neuvieh wasn't sure what to do with himself, wandering the lands in search of not only a way to fulfil Sibil's desires, but also a purpose in life. He hadn't really thought far enough ahead to consider what he would do with himself AFTER he had magic. But Sibil has plans for him, and he attempts to listen to her in hopes of getting stronger and fixing his broken family. He practices his warlock magic as he travels, but he isn't very good at it. Nearly a year after his exile, Neuvieh gets kidnapped by pirates, becoming a prisoner on a mighty pirate ship alongside others. When they crash on a mysterious unmarked island and have their souls taken by Lolth, he becomes instrinsically tied to a group of people he never thought he would be associating with. Additionally, a mysterious tiefling named Skully appears and chains Neuvieh to him, forcing the high elf to listen to his every command. Together, the group travels overseas on Skully's ship, docking and staying in a tavern overnight. There, the group learns Neuvieh's eldest brother, Cyrce, was killed, and Vasha was to be tried as the culprit. In a panic, Neuvieh goes to leave, only to get kidnapped yet again and forced to fight an envoy of his father (with Skully's help). Eventually, he ends up getting taken to High Ever, and thankfully the group comes after him. There, he learns of the fate he was meant to take on through Sibil's influence, and he understands why Skully chained them together. Together, the group goes up against his father, and though they successfully kill him, the worst has yet to come.

IMPORTANT RELATIONSHIPS

Skully is the mysterious tiefling that chained Neuvieh to him. One would think Neuvieh would despise him for this, but his feelings toward Skully are more deep and complicated than that. Despite somewhat being terrified of him, in the short amount of time they have spent together, he has come so far as to consider Skully a friend, someone who understands him better than anyone else in his life. Though he hates to admit it, he has grown to like the purple tiefling very quickly, especially considering how Skully gave up one of his limited wishes to save his sister. Neuvieh also considers being useful to someone to be of the utmost importance in his life, and being chained to Skully means he has purpose. In fact, in losing his magic thanks to Sibil's death, he was almost... afraid that Skully would leave him. It's no doubt that he's fond of Skully, but how deep that runs is a conversation he wishes to avoid at all costs. No one needs to know he finds him at least somewhat charming and endearing.

Yalkar, the mighty soldier, was someone Neuvieh quickly fell in line with. A man of few words, he found it very easy to be around him, going so far as to actually choose to hang around the silver dragonborn and engage in friendly conversation. However, with Neuvieh's tendency to bite and push people away, causing arguments even when he doesn't mean to, it has caused a tension to form between them. He considers Yalkar his most trustworthy companion, but as it stands, is unsure if Yalkar would consider him a friend in the same way. He has a lot he wishes to say to the dragonborn, but there just never seems to be the time. He really hopes that he does not blame him for what's happened, and understands he isn't the same man he killed despite looking exactly like him.

The second born of the Ostoroth family, Prys is Neuvieh's older sister and the closest he has ever been to someone. Prys practically raised him when their mother and father abandoned Neuvieh due to his lack of magical abilities. Though not a very motherly individual, she is kindhearted and loving, and her clerical training certainly helped a bit in encouraging a young Neuvieh to study. Neuvieh doesn't know to what extent, but she actively fought with their father throughout his childhood for the elder elf to treat him right. She poured a lot of time and effort into not only attempting to teach Neuvieh magic, but also just raising him in general, though it remains to be seen how good a job she did in comparison to the efforts to harm Neuvieh their father performed. She's tried her best to convince him he doesn't need their father's approval, but it hasn't worked out the best. He values her above everyone else in the world, and would quite literally do anything for her.

The third born child of the Ostoroth family and Neuvieh's direct older brother, Vasha hasn't exactly been the best of influences. Though he has been there to help Prys raise Neuvieh, he's not the most prim and proper high elf. Rather, he's sneaky and a trickster, often getting in trouble with their father. But he looked after Neuvieh a lot alongside Prys, and really tried his hardest to help out his little brother. Though he is technically a sorcerer, he much prefers being a sneaky rogue, and taught Neuvieh a lot of tricks. Vasha however, is a coward at heart, and always listened to what his father commanded him to. Thus, there have been a few occasions where he and Neuvieh were at odds due to Vasha's fear of their father. He's tried to be the best big brother he can despite everything, though his aloof nature makes him a bit hard to get along with.

  • when no one listens to him
  • being humiliated, made fun of, or picked on

TRIVIA

  • There's no specific reason Neuvieh was born without magic- he just wasn't, plain and simple. Every single other Ostoroth for centuries has either been born with magical abilities or able to master them... and he has neither. The Ostoroths have stigma against warlocks, considerig them 'false magic users', and in particular any that align with the Shadowfell due to it opposing their Fey ancestry, so Neuvieh opened a horrible can of worms in making a pact with Sibilant Shade.
  • Prysillian and Vasha were already a bit older when Neuvieh was born. His mother needed a break after Vasha was born and thus did not have more children until later. However, after Neuvieh, four others were born very rapidly. Overall, there are eight Ostoroth children (3 older than Neuvieh, 4 younger), and all of them have magical abilities- except Neuvieh. This has left him extremely ostracized throughout his whole childhood.
  • When he was younger, Prys managed to sneak Neuvieh in a pet- a lion cub, which he affectionately named Friend, as it truly was his only one. However, when Friend got too big and began to attract attention, Neuvieh's father snatched Friend up. For years, Neuvieh had thought his father killed Friend, but in reality, he ran horrible experiments on him and turned him into a chimera. Being reunited with his childhood pet has been a nice experience.
  • Neuvieh has a love for braiding hair- a strange past time, but he finds it soothing, as having something to do with his hands helps him calm down. When he's stressed, you can find him unbraiding and rebraiding his own hair anxiously. He learned to do so from his sister Prys, and the one braid in his hair she did for him one time and now he continually rebraids it to be reminded of her.
