Mako Yagi (八木 眞子・やぎ まこ・Yagi Mako) is the second child of Toshinori Yagi and Karamea Kinaki. Born Quirkless, she was never interested in her parents' careers and set her sights on acting and theatre from a young age. She auditioned for the prestigious Tokyo International School of Arts, was offered a place, and has become a rising star in the world of film since.

APPEARANCE

Mako has sometimes been described as her father's slightly shorter, opposite-sex clone. She is very tall for a teenage girl, standing at 6'3" / 190cm in bare feet, and delights in wearing thick platform shoes or high heels to push her up another few inches. She packs on musculature at the drop of a hat, giving her shoulder and upper arm definition to make an Amazon proud, and abs less like a model than an Olympic athlete. Her waist is trim, her hips curvy, and her bust is substantial but very much in proportion.

Mako has primarily inherited her father's coloring. Her hair is voluminous and curly, and primarily golden blonde; there's a steel-grey streak at her right temple, inherited from the Kinaki machine-Quirk bloodline. It reaches her upper thighs when loose (and mid-thigh when straightened). Mako typically wears it in two long braids, or done up in a messy braided bun on top of her head with two long side bangs left to frame her face. Her eyes are large under thick golden brows; they are her father's bright sky blue. Her skin is naturally tan, as though she's been out in the sun her whole life. She has a few freckles on her face and shoulders. She also has Toshinori's broad, genuine smile.

Mako has an extensive wardrobe mostly in shades of blue, orange, brown and white. She loves summery colors and prints, and will happily wear clothes in a variety of styles if they satisfy these criteria, from dresses to suits to skater punk to fifties-housewife and beyond. She has a knack for picking clothes to suit her body type, and failing that she has a sewing machine and the skills to tailor her own things. Her approach to makeup is similar ━ she loves browns, golds and bronzes, and the closer the Look is to 'summer beach party' vibes, the better. She taught herself how to do her own makeup using youtube tutorials and finds it relaxing to put together a look, even if she isn't going anywhere. She uses her own body as a canvas on which to create artworks.

Her school uniform is dull but practical in comparison ━ a white blouse, pale blue plaid skirt, which on Mako reaches a few inches above the knee, and navy blue blazer with white trim around the collar and sleeve cuffs. The school also has a little blue plaid cap and scarf, which Mako frequently wears because she thinks the uniform is terribly boring otherwise.

As a child, Mako was a bright, bubbly, highly sociable girl who became a leader in her own right when she stepped out of her sister's shadow. She is very like Toshinori himself was as a child: energetic, friendly, and very emotionally intense. She's absolutely a daddy's girl, and Toshinori adores her in return; they understand each other in a way that Karamea and Kahurangi do not. She was diagnosed with ADHD as a ten-year-old, though her parents suspected it long before then as she was so hyperactive it often interfered with her sleep.

She is a talented actor; she began acting in school plays as a child, and enjoyed it so much that her parents began looking for other productions she might be able to take part in. As a twelve-year-old she scored a part in an indie movie which went on to gross highly at the domestic box offices, and at sixteen she took part in an international English-language TV production as a female Viking. She acquires new vocabulary easily, and has a particular talent for mimicking accents, an ability which becomes very helpful in her acting career. Sometimes she mirrors the accents people speak to her in without realising, which can be embarrassing.

➥ Mako was named for her aunt, Toshinori's long-dead older sister. Her name is spelled differently, with kanji meaning 'truth' or 'reality' (眞 ma) and 'child' (子 ko).

• She uses the first kanji (眞) as her stage name, which is read as 'Makoto', and adopted the surname 'Mori' (森), meaning 'forest'. This is a pun ━ both Yagi and Kinaki contain the kanji for 'tree' ━ and a reference to the family's favourite childhood movie, Pacific Rim.

➥ Mako fucking loves Bollywood films. She is particularly enamored by the aesthetic and set design of historical romances and action movies — the more convoluted and ridiculous the story, the better, as far as she's concerned!

➥ Mako speaks five languages to some degree. Japanese and English are her native languages; both were in common use in the Yagi household growing up. She can get along fairly well in Ainu, thanks to patient tutoring by her Kinaki relatives, and has picked up bits and pieces of Te Reo Māori from her maternal grandmother Awhina.

• She is also currently learning Hindi with the assistance of Duolingo and copious amounts of Hindi cinema.

➥ She draws and paints as a relaxing hobby. She hasn't got the same talent as her little brother, but then, she doesn't practice as much as he does either; she's usually more focused on her acting.
