Lady Bone Demon
Witch (by Rumble)
Bone Demon
LBD
Mastermind.
"You are me, and I am you. My past and your future, intertwined."
Lady Bone Demon is a cunning and manipulative demon that seeks to destroy and rebuild the mortal realm in her pursuit of perfection. She was defeated and her physical form destroyed by the Golden Staff and the Samadhi Fire, but a fragment of her soul lived on—in none other than her former champion Macaque, who unknowingly passed it on to Rumble when he created her.
She resides within the deepest depths of Rumble’s mind as a mere shadow of her former self, with only a feeble grip on the young monkey's thoughts and actions. The limited influence she has over Rumble manifests in the form of ominous whispers, and cryptic dreams and visions—these aren’t always malevolent, however. She recognizes Rumble’s potential as her successor and persistently encourages her to follow in her footsteps. Strangely, she even assumes a somewhat motherly role in her approach towards Rumble.
Notes
- not an oc, but rather an au/post-canon version of her.
- "why does she have horns" because it looks cool. ok
Personality
In death, Lady Bone Demon remains as insidious as she was in life, employing a multitude of underhanded means to manipulate Rumble into fulfilling her destiny. Her intent isn't to make Rumble a new vessel for possession—she is no longer powerful enough to completely take control of others—but rather to groom her into a perfect champion, a torchbearer for her legacy. She takes great care not to outright frighten the young monkey; instead, she uses pretty words and indirectly exploits Rumble's insecurities by taking on the role of a loving yet strict mother figure.
Rebirth
Following her defeat, a fragment of her soul remained intact within Macaque, whom she had once bestowed her powers upon. When Macaque accidentally created the twins, this piece was unknowingly passed on to the younger one—Rumble. As a result, Rumble’s physical appearance differed from that of her sister and father, and she inherited the powers of Lady Bone Demon instead of her fathers shadow magic. It did not take long for those around her to recognize Rumble as LBD’s reincarnation, and action was taken quickly; a seal was placed upon her, locking the piece of LBD’s soul away and preventing her from accessing the dark powers she harbored.
feeble influence
The seal shielding Rumble from the demon's influence held firm for a number of years, making LBD entirely unable to communicate with Rumble up until it began to lose its power when she was 12. As the seal weakened, it not only granted Rumble access to her magic but also gave Lady Bone Demon the opportunity to gradually let her influence seep through the cracks, taking the form of whispered words and cryptic visions. Although she was now capable of reaching out to the young monkey, these interactions were far from constant, as her words only managed to reach Rumble on rare occasions.
LBD’s weak influence did not play a significant role in Rumble’s decision to leave behind her old life and the altercation with her sister—instead, she was pushed to do what she did by her peers, who constantly made her feel alienated due to her true identity.
rejection
It was only when Rumble became a student at the Red Sky Temple that it became easier for the two to communicate, albeit under Rumble's terms. During her time at the Temple, she learned how to meditate properly and would sometimes employ this method to directly speak to LBD within her mind. However, to LBD’s surprise, Rumble proved to be remarkably resilient to the manipulative words the demon had been whispering to her all this time, and did not want anything to do with her so-called ‘destiny’.
coronation
After Yang’s death, Rumble was vulnerable and willingly accepted the Bone Crown upon being promised it would make her forget her agony. Under the influence of the Crown, her once-strong willpower faltered, allowing Lady Bone Demon to gain a significantly firmer grip on Rumble. Under the guise of wanting to ease Rumble's pain, the demoness could now command and possess her champion at her own discretion, manipulating her actions and thoughts. Accompanied by the Mayor and Rags, they embarked on a journey in search of a force equally destructive as the Samadhi Fire, believing it to be the key to fulfilling destiny. Before they could find it, however, Rumble was freed of the Crown, and her determination to reject destiny rekindled her inner strength and weakened the demon's hold over her once more.
Had she continued to bear the Crown, the inevitable outcome would have been a complete role reversal, essentially. Lady Bone Demon would have seized complete and utter control of Rumble's body, dictating her every action and thought, while Rumble herself would have been reduced to a mere observer, trapped deep within her own mind, unable to fight back.
