Voiceclaim

Rumble is one of Macaque's two accidentally created sentient shadow clones/daughters. Younger by a few seconds, she is Savage's twin sister.

Once an insecure and timid girl, heavily reliant on her older sister’s approval, Rumble was pushed to her breaking point by the constant ostracization she faced from everyone else. In order to free herself of the ties that bound her, she eventually severed the bond she shared with Savage herself and set out in search of a place where she truly belonged. Over the course of her journey, she has become a fierce, unafraid warrior, always ready to give anyone who looks at her funny a piece of her mind.

As the reincarnation of the Lady Bone Demon, a lot of Rumble’s story revolves around trying to find her own identity and showing the world that she's more than the villain people always expected her to become.

ABOUT

In the past, Rumble was cynical and didn't have much faith in herself. Still, she constantly tried her best to make people like her—she was something of a people pleaser in that regard—but even so, they always seemed to give her the cold shoulder. Her father too was rather indifferent towards her, so she never had a lot of love for him and was instead very attached to her sister, as she felt like Savage was the only one who truly understood her. When in Savage’s presence, Rumble had no issues showing her true colors, like her love for theatrics—it runs in the family—and wasn't a stranger to a snarky remark or two either. After discovering her true identity, she gave up on trying to make others like her and would openly tease them about their fear of her.

During her years apart from her family, other parts of her personality changed drastically as well. As her power grew, she became increasingly snappy, impulsive, and quick to resort to violence. She no longer cares about what others think of her and thus isn’t afraid to speak whatever is on her mind—in the most dramatic way possible, of course. This openness makes her seem quite abrasive more often than not, since she generally distrusts most people. She is rather affectionate towards the few she does trust, though.

She doesn’t like to think about the past, and part of her still loves her sister dearly and can’t forgive herself for everything that happened. However, she believes she made the right choice in leaving Megapolis behind. Although she isn’t opposed to telling people close to her about her backstory, she never tells them the whole truth, since she doesn’t want to be feared by them.

STORY

JalDyMl.png

Rumble’s story is currently divided into three Arcs. Or maybe three and a half. Firstly, the Megapolis Arc, which revolves around her growing up, discovering her true identity, and eventually having a falling out with her sister that goes on to shape the rest of her journey.

Secondly, the Red Sky & Bone Crown Arc. In this arc, she is on the run until she meets Yang and joins Red Sky Temple—spending the next few years of her life there, learning and making new friends. Her days at the Temple are cut short when she is forcefully retrieved by followers of the Bone Demon Order.

Thirdly, the Simian’s Domain Arc, in which she’s freed from the Order’s clutches with Rogue’s help, and taken to a place she normally should not be able to reach—a realm of giant, floating islands, magically hidden from prying eyes, inhabited solely by anthropomorphic monkeys and apes. She joins the Ragtags—a band of rebels founded by Rogue and her friends—and before long, Rumble’s arrival kickstarts the discovery of a conspiracy that’s bigger than all of them.

Megapolis Arc (AGE 13)

Rumble and her sister Savage were raised by Macaque on the outskirts of Megapolis. As a kid, most would have described Rumble as timid and somewhat insecure, as she relied on her older sister for a lot of things—the two were practically inseparable. Unlike Savage, Rumble seemed to lack the ability to wield magic, which led to a sense of alienation from her peers. As a result, she rarely revealed her true colors to others, except for her sister.

Perhaps wanting to feel useful, she began practicing martial arts at a young age and gradually became quite skilled at fighting with a staff. Although she tended to hide in her sister’s shadow and purposefully let the other's individuality and talent outshine her own, she was an ambitious kid, evident by her dedication to learning how to fight, as well as the way she was always eager to go on missions and prove that, even without magic, she could hold her own in battle.

However, Rumble's life took a drastic turn on her 12th birthday when their father disclosed the truth about Rumble’s existence to the twins. He revealed that she was the reincarnation of the Lady Bone Demon, a cunning and manipulative being that once attempted to destroy the mortal realm in her pursuit of perfection. A fragment of the demon’s soul lived on within her, and Rumble's inability to use magic stemmed from a seal placed on her shortly after her creation, supposedly for her own protection. The seal was imperfect, though, and its restraints on Rumble's dangerous and destructive powers were gradually loosening. Macaque claimed to have kept this from the twins for their own good.

Learning about her true identity shattered Rumble’s world. Everything that had previously puzzled her now made sense. She understood why she looked so different from Savage and her father, as well as why she struggled to connect with others—it had never been about her lack of magic. They had always been aware of what she truly was, and they were afraid. Afraid of what she had once been and of what she might become.

Now that she knew the truth, Rumble's behavior became increasingly extreme and erratic. She abandoned her naive way of thinking and would openly confront and mock people about their fear of her, while simultaneously growing more and more attached to her sister and seeking her constant approval—after all, Savage knew her better than anyone. She of all people would know that Rumble wasn’t a monster… right?

As the seal weakened, not only did her dangerous powers begin to manifest, it also gave what was left of Lady Bone Demon the opportunity to gradually let her influence seep through the cracks, taking the form of whispered words and cryptic visions. This made Rumble's emotional instability even more pronounced, leading to her destructive powers spiraling out of control quite often, something that wasn't exactly reassuring to those around her. However, due to her abilities' sinister nature, any attempts to gain control over them were also frowned upon. She was unsure of what to do, caught between a rock and a hard place, until Savage encouraged her to at least give harnessing and understanding her powers a try.

The two sisters would practice together in secret, and their training sessions allowed Rumble to discover a surprising and somewhat unsettling truth: that once she made up her mind, she had a natural knack for controlling her powers. Though she occasionally felt overwhelmed by just how intimidating and unpredictable they were, Savage's unwavering support and guidance helped Rumble get a handle on her abilities.

Rumble's confidence in her powers, however, was short-lived. On a mission with Savage, Caramel, Macaque, and Wukong, things went downhill when Rumble's eagerness to demonstrate her newfound abilities led to a mishap. Even though nobody was injured, this incident caused Macaque to ban her from participating in missions altogether. Even Savage, who, up until now, had been her closest ally and training partner, began to keep her distance, her caution regarding Rumble's nature becoming evident.

Feeling like no one was on her side, Rumble became unable to bear the distrustful glances people exchanged whenever she was near, sick of the whispers behind her back. Rumble concluded that there was no place for her here—perhaps there never had been—and that she had to leave Megapolis behind if she ever wanted to truly be free. She tried to flee and abandon everything she knew, but was stopped by the last person she expected—Savage.

Filled with guilt over having abandoned Rumble in her time of need, Savage apologized and begged her younger sister to stay by her side, desperately reminding her of their promise never to part ways. However, Rumble's anger and bitterness ran deep, and she was having none of it. In her eyes, Savage was a traitor who, like everyone else, thought of her as a monster. They found no common ground, and their argument escalated into a fight that ended almost as quickly as it began. Fueled by her rage, Rumble swiftly and decisively overpowered her sister and subsequently left Megapolis and a grievously injured Savage behind for good.

Red Sky Arc (AGE 14-17)

(I've actually started writing this one. Not sure I'll ever finish it but you can read it here)

During her months on the run, she had to engage in less than commendable behavior in order to survive. Knowing she would have the upper hand if it came to it, she certainly wasn't above picking a fight. One fateful day, she crossed paths with Yang, a fellow monkey. They weren't swayed by her mean attitude and could even hold their own in a physical fight against her. Impressed by the younger monkey's talent, Yang was eager to offer Rumble some of their food in exchange for a talk. Surprisingly, they actually hit it off after that.

Rumble found out that Yang hailed from a place tucked away in the mountains known as the Red Sky Temple—or simply Red Sky for short—and all their fighting expertise had been taught to them by Pai Zi, the Temple's headmaster. Right now, they were returning from running an errand for said Master. After conversing for a while, Rumble agreed to accompany Yang. The temple had piqued her interest—having a place to stay didn't sound too bad, plus she was aware she still had much to learn, making it an appealing change of pace.

Upon reaching the temple, she had to undertake a sort of 'entrance exam'—a test prepared by Master Pai Zi that not only required strength but also wits, resourcefulness, and the ability to work in a team. Paired with the other newcomer, Yunan, their task was to make their way to the top of a neighboring mountain, retrieve an artifact from its summit, then return and present it to the master.

Rumble, neither used to nor fond of working in a team, initially thought of Yunan and her naive curiosity as nothing more than deadweight and refused to cooperate with her. However, it soon became apparent that the trials awaiting them required more than one person to solve. They ultimately managed to pass the test and became official students of Red Sky, and Rumble seemed to have accepted Yunan as her equal.

Her days at the Temple were spent learning all about the principles of kung fu, honing her physical and mental strength, and dedicating herself to rigorous combat training. Under Master Pai Zi and Yang’s guidance, she not only mastered the combat techniques she had once struggled with but also delved into the art of meditation and learned to connect with her inner self and the world around her.

With time, Rumble discovered an unexpected side effect of her deep meditative sessions: the ability to directly speak to Lady Bone Demon within her mind. It became easier for the two to communicate, and Rumble asserted her resilience at every opportunity, making it abundantly clear to the demoness that she did not want anything to do with her so-called ‘destiny’.

She did keep her true identity and the nature of her powers a secret from her new friends at Red Sky, out of fear of once again being perceived as 'evil'. She practiced her magic in secret, under the cover of darkness. However, one night, Yang followed her after noticing her sneaking out to the training grounds. Yang turned out not to be scared of her powers at all, and was actually curious as to why Rumble had kept her awesome abilities a secret from everyone. Rumble opened up to Yang, sharing some of her past and the reason she tried to avoid using magic in front of other people, but omitted the crucial detail of her being the Lady Bone Demon's reincarnation.

Rumble’s leisurely days at the Temple were cut short when the Mayor and Rags, who were sent by Shizhe, finally tracked her down. Determined to serve his lady once more, the Mayor pledged his loyalty to her, but when Rumble refused to entertain his ideas, he resorted to drastic measures. He had Rags kill Yang in front of her, and threatened to do the same to Yunan if Rumble didn't comply.

Well aware that she would endanger everyone at Red Sky by staying, she said her goodbyes and joined the Mayor, secretly planning to betray him once they were far enough away from the temple. However, she never got this chance, as they met up with Shizhe on the other side of the Valley of Wonders.

Bone Crown Arc (AGE 18)

Her guilt about Yang’s death ate her up inside—Shizhe quickly realized this and offered her a way out: the Bone Crown, a relic left behind by Lady Bone Demon. Upon being promised it would make her forget her sorrow, she willingly accepted it, not realizing its true nature.

Magically infused with its creator's willpower, the Crown’s function was to influence the wearer's mind and soul and rob them of their free will—even the fierce Rumble. As the Crown's power took hold, her once-strong willpower faltered, allowing Lady Bone Demon to gain a significantly firmer grip on her. Under the guise of wanting to ease Rumble's pain, the demoness could now command and possess Rumble at her own discretion, manipulating her actions and thoughts.

Ja0nUGI.png

The Crown left its mark on her appearance—parts of her fur turned blue, her tail transformed into bone, and a white streak appeared in her hair. Her eyes mirrored those of Lady Bone Demon—black scleras, glowing red irises, and black pupils with a white dot in the middle—while spectral horns would manifest on her head whenever the demoness took control.

For six long months, Rumble, ensnared by Lady Bone Demon, accompanied Shizhe, the Mayor and Rags on their mission to fulfill destiny. Their journey took them to mysterious places all across the country as they attempted to find a destructive force equal to the Samadhi Fire. After all, to bring about the perfect world they envisioned, they first needed a power capable of wiping the slate clean.

Unfortunately for Lady Bone Demon and her crew, their endeavors proved unsuccessful—at least for the time being. Before they could find their power source, another monkey called Rogue became aware of Rumble's predicament. Determined to intervene and save her, Rogue lured Rumble away from the clutches of the Mayor and Rags, and promptly freed her of the Crown and its influence.

The moment it was removed, Rumble fell unconscious. In this state, she had a vision in which she was briefly reunited with Yang, her lost companion, who offered words of wisdom. They encouraged her to embrace her true self and let go of the burdens of her past—there was no point in agonizing over what could’ve been, they told her. You cannot change your past, but you can change who you become from here on out.

When she awoke, her determination to reject destiny had rekindled her inner strength and weakened the demon's hold over her once more. Additionally, her eyes had returned to their customary yellow-purple colors, and the white streak in her hair had vanished—but the rest of changes to her appearance seemed to be permanent. Rumble hastily filled Rogue in on what had been done to her, and the two came up with a plan to take out her tormentors.

They were able to defeat the Mayor with unexpected ease, and incapacitated Shizhe, but Rags—arguably the most dangerous of the three—managed to slip away. In his final moments, the Mayor told Rumble the chilling truth: Had she continued to bear the Crown, the inevitable outcome would have been a complete role reversal. Lady Bone Demon would have seized complete and utter control of Rumble's body, dictating her every action and thought, while Rumble herself would have been reduced to a mere observer, trapped deep within her own mind, unable to fight back.

Although she had been freed of the Crown before the worst could happen, her time with it hadn't been without consequences. Lady Bone Demon's grip on her, though weakened for now, was far from gone. Rumble remained vulnerable, especially when she tapped into her Bone Demon powers. The more she relied on these abilities, the greater the risk of the demoness regaining control over her.

In the aftermath, Rogue approached Rumble and formally introduced herself to her, and expressed her genuine desire for the two of them to become friends. Puzzled by Rogue's kindness and willingness to help her out, Rumble instinctively tried to push her away, claiming that she brought nothing but trouble to those around her and was now more dangerous than ever. Rogue, however, saw past her facade and reaffirmed her wish for friendship, even promising to take her somewhere safe. Remembering Yang’s words, Rumble eventually relented, and her newfound friend led her to her home in the skies—the Simian's Domain.

Simian's Domain Arc (AGE 19)

Can't say I've thought out the plotline for this yet

Skills

Attack
Defense
Magic
Stamina
Agility
Control

Physical Abilities

Like Macaque, she inherently possesses incredible speed, strength, agility and reflexes.

Martial Arts Proficiency

Due to her lack of magic at the time, she started practicing kung fu at a young age, making her quite skilled at moves that utilize a staff in particular. When not using a staff, her fighting style used to be rather disorganized, but has improved significantly during the time she spent at Red Sky.

Insight

She has a knack for reading people and ascertaining their true intentions.

Bone Constructs

She can conjure constructs made of bone. Their color ranges between white and ice blue, and they appear similar to fulgurite. Developed during her teenage years.

Mental Manipulation/Corruption

She can mentally influence and seize control of others, and even manipulate memories. This is the one of the main reasons people fear her. Developed during her childhood.

Telekinesis

Allows her to control, move, and manipulate objects and people. Developed during her childhood.

"Thunderstorm"

She cannot teleport like LBD could, but does however have the ability to temporarily move at an extreme speed. All onlookers will see is a bright blue flash, leaving only particles in its wake. Developed during her teenage years.

Energy Absorption

Different from the kind of absorption ability LBD had—while hers allowed LBD to completely absorb someone's magic by touching them, Rumble's allows her to absorb energy (magical and kinetic) from blows she takes and use said energy to power herself up. Developed during her time at Red Sky.

Qi Manipulation

She can control the Qi Energy around herself to increase her strength. Often combines this with her martial arts know-how and her energy-absorption ability during fights. Developed during her time at Red Sky.

"Shimmer"

A protective spell that allows her to protect others from damage by enveloping them in a blue glow. Notably, she can't use it on herself. Developed during her time with the Ragtags.

  • Instead of relying on words to manipulate and instill doubt in her enemies like her predecessor, Rumble just punches shit. It's what she does best.
  • While LBD's magic manifested itself as ice-like, Rumble's is associated with electricity. The air around her will often become staticky when she's using her powers, and it's deeply tied to her state of mind as well—this becomes most noticeable when she experiences heightened emotions. Due to this static electricity, her hair will sometimes stand on end, and she may discharge very minor electric shocks when she touches things or other people.
  • Fun fact: If you tried to put packing peanuts on her fur she would probably look like the cat on the electrostatics wikipedia page.

NOTES

  • Her image color is #ABC2EC.
  • Has a weird relationship with her gender. She does consider herself a girl, but acts rather manly and cares little about how others see her. Thus 'Female-adjacent'.
  • She's a lesbian and on the aroace spectrum.
  • The reason most people become uneasy around Rumble is that they've felt the influence of LBD before, and Rumble's mere presence feels similar to that. This unease is only experienced by those who were trapped in LBD's bone-slash-ice magic or otherwise affected by her before her defeat. (I mean she Did encase most of the world or at least China in ice) Individuals born after her defeat, or those who weren't affected by her in any way, like Pai Zi and Yang, as well as the Domain residents, do not share this feeling. (Red Sky and the Simian's Domain were exempt from LBD’s brief reign of terror, with the former being shielded by the Valley of Wonders and the latter being protected by its magical barrier)
  • Although Rumble does indeed share the same soul as & similar abilities to LBD, she doesn't have any direct memories of her 'past life'. For all intents and purposes, she's an entirely different person. (Think of the reincarnation thing like.. The Avatar Cycle)
  • Some inspirations for her character are Catra, Korra and Beauregard (personality), and Jinx (design)/Powder (childhood personality)

Design

  • Has a slight underbite.
  • Three dark stripes on both shoulders (& upper legs, but these usually aren't visible)
  • Muscular build.
  • Piercing in right ear.
  • Braid reaches down to her ankles.
  • Tail is made of bone.
  • This is the pattern used on her loincloth. or whatever that thing is called idk
