"My makeup is just fine you little-?! Ugh! Get away from me with all that frilly makeup- no I don't want lipstick!! EDDIE HELP A GUY OUT HERE- EDDIEEEEE"
"Huh..you'd look much better with a smile on your face, you know? And that makeup..it's a bit bland. Here, let me help you pops! Come here~!"
Cranky often observes Amaryllis's acts, taking a genuine interest in them. He's always on the look for ways he could improve, and watching others is a good way to do that. However he was never expecting this young whippersnapper to offer him assistance..he will not admit it outright but he does appreciate it. He views Amaryllis very fondly because of this, especially when she compliments his acts. Cranks tends to be a bit less cranky when around Amaryllis..and will often ask to practice alongside her
She already has a soft spot for him, especially because he's cranky. Will probably offer up any help he needs or offer to do some acts together since they both do miming and slapstick. If he ever makes a comment about his act/ability, will be there to point out everything she likes.
Cranks has mixed opinions on Bezeli. He doesn't dislike his presence, but will very easily get annoyed by him due to his egotistical nature, and his mischievousness. The old clown tends to try and scold Bezeli a lot (as he does for most of the clowns) telling him to tone his ego down a bit..although he isn't sure it makes much of an affect. Regardless, he has Bezeli's back, and would offer to help him if he was ever in a pinch. Cranks has quite a bit of respect for him, which is not something he can say about a lot of the clowns in the tent of shine
Little secret, but a big part of him is tempted to "borrow" Bezeli's crown so he could go be the king of Denny's XD
Bezeli can't quite explain it but he feels a strange sense of comfort around him despite his cranky personality and would love to preform juggling acts for him if ever asked, also he'd never say this to Cranky's face but he really enjoys hearing his old fashioned way of talking, it's the funniest thing to him, made even funnier by his attempts to sound "hip" and cool.
Cranks secretly adores Jed, but he'd never admit it to his face. Although he's almost always irritated by the flirty devil, he can't help but like him. Jed reminds Cranks of himself when he was younger, which is part of the reason he isn't phased or really bothered by Jed's flirting. He does scold Jed on a daily basis, and act pretty begrudgingly of him..but let's just say he'd really miss him if he was gone. Cranks will also ask for flirting advice on rare occasion, since he has forgotten most of the old tricks he used to use when younger..and doesn't know all the new 'hip' compliments and slang
Almost immediately, Jed was faced with someone that was instantly fed up with his antics, which amused him, but it was so reactive that Jed did ended up on the other end of the guys lecturing and gave him a little bit of a hard time about it. Nevertheless, it didn't really stop him.
Though what tends to surprise him is the very few times that Mr Cranks questions him in regards to flirting, as if he wanted to learn himself.
Cranks loves Eddie more than he loves himself. Of course he won't often say that to his face, but he truly does adore him. Eddie is like the son he never had, and was more than happy to give him a role model and figure to look up to in the shine tent. He's noticed that Eddie practically sticks to him like glue now, which he doesn't mind in the slightest. Even though he may act begrudgingly and sarcastic towards Eddie a whole lot, he cherishes both him and his sister. And is thankful that they came over to the shine tent. He wishes the two of them could have met his wife..claiming that she would of loved the both of them just as much as he does.
Will pester the grandpa as much as he can, and make jokes about his perceived age. But once he sees how entranced Cranks can get with jugglers, will try to show him how to do it. That one bit reminded him of his sister and how she would get when he juggled, so he has a soft spot for the old man. Will ask if he can raid dumpsters with him and will fight anyone who bothers him too much. He's a cranky grandpa, how could Eddie not like him?
"Old man-?!" *He'd look Trinity up and down with a glare, before chuckling a little* "..I'm doin fine kid , just fine. You better not be gettin into any trouble ya hear? Well.. without me that is heheh"
"Hey Old man, how's the tent's grandpa doin?"
The older clown would notice that Buttercream tends to linger around him, usually he reserves his popcorn for the children that come to the tent of shine.. but he can't help but give her some. In fact, he'll set some off to the side before he even hands out any..just so there's enough for Buttercreme to have some. Cranky enjoy's her company, even if she doesn't speak much with him... regardless he veiws her in a good light.
Buttercreme is inexplicably drawn to the older, crabby clown. Maybe because she can smell the popcorn on him, her favorite snack. Or she sees how heβs a softie underneath, and relates to him on that. But regardless, she really enjoys being around him, even if she wonβt talk to him much.
Cranks can't deny that he has grown a bit fond of Sonny, this old clown is very perceptive and picked up on Sonny's presence whilst practicing and performing. He doesn't know why the kid pays any attention to his acts, since Cranks fully believes Sonny (and all the other clowns) can do much better. Despite this, he doesn't mind Sonny watching, and looking up to him as a whole. It actually makes the old man feel good, he'll occasionally flash Sonny a little salute or tip of his hat whenever performing if he sees him backstage or in the audience watching. And although Cranks hasn't spoken to Sonny very much, he would drop whatever it was he was doing to help him out if a problem arose.
Sonny has major respect for Mr Cranks. Unbeknownst to the rest of Shine, Sonny looks up to him and even watches him carefully during acts to learn. He knows that the man has some lengthy experience and he'd love to learn more from the demon.
What's stopping him is a slight insecurity that he'd be bothering the Carni when the older demon has so much else he could be doing. Nevertheless, he's obsessively observant when Mr Cranks is doing his acts or practicing!
... He wouldn't admit it to anyone, but he might have a slight daddy issue and sees Mr Crank as the *Go-To* if something happens that he can't fix.
When first given the Amber, he tried to eat it because it smelt of maple syrup..which reminded him of pancakes. Although he was quickly disappointed to find out it wasn't edible. Despite this, he has kept the rock to this day. He keeps it in the pocket of his coat for good luck. Cranks was very reluctant of Kee at first, since she came from melody tent. However due to her gifts of pancakes and a pancake smelling rock, he couldn't hold a grudge against her. It doesn't matter that she came from Melody tent to him now, since she is now in the shine tent..he considers her one of his own. He would willingly and happily mentor her, and even though he won't admit it to Kee's face..he loves being called pop-pop.
Kee sometimes calls Mr Cranks Pop-Pop, and considers him a mentor. She knows he doesn't enjoy the melody tent, and did her best to get on his good side! By gifting him pancakes..... She also gave Mr Cranks a piece of Amber that smells like Maple Syrup!
Rock given: Amber
Lucy is one of the only clowns, if the only, that he will never scold in anyway. He has a lot of respect and loyalty towards his ringmaster, and although he will act his usual grumpy self around Lucy.. he's never actually annoyed by his company/presence. Cranky had the chance to leave Shining tent with his wife many years ago, but couldn't bring himself to do so. Feeling like it was a sort of disrespect towards his ringmaster. He's appreciative of the clip on ties Lucy gets him..and is happy to she'd the little bits of 'wisdom' that he does happen to have
Despite being the one who made him, Lucy sees Cranks almost like a father figure with how he tends to watch over all the other clowns. He likes asking Cranks for advice whenever he feels down or lost, feeling comfortable in relaying his concerns with the old clown. Lucy will find new clip on ties/bowties for him whenever he csn bec he knows the old man hates tying ties.
Minnie is what Cranks refers to in his head "A little angel" (even though she's taller than him XD) due to the fact she's always looking out for both him, and Eddie. Which he appreciates more than she knows. He won't admit it often, but he does value and cherish her presence. Cranks appreciates that she tried to lift his spirits with pancakes..even though it ends up making him a bit sad. His wife used to do the same, making him pancakes to cheer him up back in the day. It's bitter sweet, and he knows that his wife would have adored Minnie. On occasion he'll sit down with the mime and talk with her about his life in the shine tent, and his wife. Old man babbling
Minnie is a bit bummed about Mr Cranks being cranky all the time, especially with all the other chaotic clowns in the tent.. In an effort to lift Cranks' spirits a bit, she'll every so often go on a trip to get him some Denny's, and gets fresh-er pancakes for him than ones discarded in the dumpster.
Dixie's like the daughter he never had, and reminds him very much of his wife Marjorie personality wise. He often gets along with her but the two of them will clash occasionally. Although it never lasts long and they usually make up rather quick. Cranks respects her, and tries his best not to scold Dixie too much. Sometimes he can't help himself though, seeing her pout is one of the rare things that get's this grumpy old man to smile.
Dixie is also one of the only other clowns that he's told about his wife, and how she left the shine tent many years ago to pursue music in the tent of melodies. Finding it easy to open up to her
Mr. Cranks is one of the few, if only, clowns to have some sort of authority Dixie respects-- In a familial sense, that is.
He's as close to a father figure as she'll get, and Dixie loves him for it, even when he doesn't have the patience for her theatrics and they sometimes clash.
There isn't a single other clown who can scold Dixie for being a prima donna, without her flipping out. She'll pout and whine, but she would never raise her voice at Cranks.
Tries to get on the right foot, but it doesn't go with his man. Gotten hit in the leg once and never again he went close to that guy, calls it an accident when he 'lightly' smacks Cranks in the head once by reflex. But he still tries at distance. Offering a small bowl of his food at Crank's tent. Maverick wasn't discreet at hiding as he watch Cranks trying his food though.
Cranks see's Vorran's efforts to make him smile, and while he doesn't understand it..it is appreciated. Whenever Vorran does manage to make the old Carni smile though, he will often try to hide his face in his coat or turn away to hide it. He does respect the other clown, and will try not to scold him often (even though it is a bit hard sometimes, used to scolding and telling off all the rowdy clowns in Shine tent) Even though cranky won't admit it, he enjoys Vorran's company quite a bit
Vorran tries his best to make Cranky smile, even at least a small bit. He finds him to be an amazing performer and deeply admires his will to keep at it, even if he isnβt in the best of moods. He also enjoys how Cranky avoids answering the age question (who can say, maybe he was inspired to not answer as well?).
