DESIGN NOTES
[Link to Species Design Sheet Will Be Here When I Make It]
- Dorbs can be any coloration, and have any combination of crown/soft (horns/no horns) and tuft/nub (long tail/short tail).
- Typically, female dorbs will be soft/tuft, and male dorbs will be crown/nub.
- Dorb horns can be in any shape.
- Dorbs have a wide variety of fur patterns and lengths. They can be shaggy, curly, short, etc.
- Dorbs with nub tails can have a tuft of fur at the end-- this is a sign that the dorb is very old.
LIFE STAGES
Dorbs are born one per litter. Baby dorbs stick very close to their mothers. Tuft dorbs make the best moms, as baby dorbs need to be kept very warm and can curl up in their longer tails. The youngins need to be fed a ground up mush specifically for their weak tummies. They do not nurse.
Dorbs tend to be adopted once they start to feel confident enough to leave their mother's side. Their underdeveloped brains don't typically remember this, and they will then become heavily bonded to their owners as a result.
Dorbs reach adulthood after around 1 or 2 years, and males will often begin growing territorial as they search for a mate. Some dorbs will even attempt to leave home, as nomadic behavior is not unheard of for the lil guys.
As dorbs reach ages of 5 or 6, they will begin to slow down. Their legs are not the strongest, so movement will become very difficult. Dorbs are remarkably healthy, however, so it is not unheard of to see them live for up to 10 years.
HISTORY & LORE
Long ago, Sabirs began domesticating dorbs by crossbreeding the bug-eating Flomas and canopy-dwelling Vinayas into the lovable little fellas we know and love. It's how they get their scientific name-- "Lovable Flowervine".
Dorbs have been bred into many different breeds with various characteristics and temperaments. They are fed pellets of crushed up plants and bug meat.
Soft dorbs are typically pretty lazy, and enjoy being doted on by their caretakers. Crowned Dorbs, on the other hand, have a tendency towards aggression to strangers-- a holdover from their Floma ancestors. It is unwise to have more than one crowned dorb at a time, as they will likely butt heads in an effort to establish dominance, and that can lead to injury for your little friends.
