Kanemori Shionaga

Everyone knows that it's stupid to conflate fame with success, because actually skilled people are outshone by the people who get famous every day. This is to say that Kanemori Shionaga was almost certainly scouted to HPA via nepotism alone. The son of rival volleyball players, he was on his way to becoming a star in the sport himself before an accident caused him to abruptly pivot to football. With all due respect, he should definitely not have become a player on the national team within a year - and he didn’t actually do so, but apparently his fifteen minutes of fame were enough to win over Hope’s Peak and convince them to scout him, instead. From the way he acts, you’d think he actually deserved it.

There is unfortunately no kinder way to describe Kanemori than “cardboard cutout”. Bless him, but growing up in the residual fame of two retired sports stars and then taking up sports himself has pretty much guaranteed that Kanemori has never had to think about anything too critically. Everything in his life has always been easy, and he’s frankly terrified of change or rocking the boat - so he’s just going to stay well within his comfort zone and never have opinions of his own, because he’s certainly never had cause to do anything else. For what it’s worth, Kanemori is decent enough to talk to if you don’t mind his lack of commitment to basically anything he says or does.
