The navigator and first mate of the leviathan hunting ship that The Captain operates. Despite initial appearances, shes the more laid back of the two. First mate isnt nearly as stern as her body language and features may imply, once you actually engage with her she tends to soften considerably. Not to say that she doesnt suit her line of work, first mate is competent with both supporting her crew and with hunting the leviathans, but she has an elegance to her that is atypical for the field. Shes been on ships since she was a young girl and has the experience to prove it. She tends to be more open minded and less opinionated than her peers which is both a strength and weakness. If left to her own devices, she can relegate herself to a "background character" in her own life, but those around her help remind her that shes just as much as an active component in the world as they are. She feels a true sense of belonging with her crew and will do nearly anything to preserve that, shes less prone to violence than some of the others in her midst but shes no pacifist, and she doesnt like to drag things out.
In her personal time she appreciates the little things, she has a strong aesthetic enjoyment of the world and likes to sight see as well as being a fan of regional teas and coffee varieties. She doesnt go inland often, but when she does she always tries to visit bodies of water, shes been trying to exposure therapy herself to them over the years and is at the point where she can submerge herself a bit comfortably. She had a trauamtic experience being exposed to seawater in her early teens, resulting in the chiroplasia (hand growths) on her face. Working as a leviathan hunter isnt an issue as they wear protective suits, but things like taking a shower(rather than a bath) used to be impossible for her due to the sensation of the water on her skin. She doesnt mind her condition, though she can at times be a bit too relaxed in others treatment of her, shes a lot more assertive than when she was a teenager and can easily handle her own now, on top of having the support of her crew and especially her captain.
She and her captain are closer than most others in the business, theyve known eachother for a long time and have a different sense of intimacy to them than in their other relationships. The best way to describe it is if captain is a light house, first mate is the north star. Gay shit going on.
Funfacts:
-taught herself to move the face hands, this isnt something everyone can do because movement being possible largely depends on what structures the hands are derived from, face muscles lend themselves very well to that
-her teeth are stained from how much she drinks tea and coffee.
-really quite expressive, she just has resting stoic face
