Engel grew up with only her father. They weren't wealthy and she spent most of her childhood in afterschool programs or in her bedroom because her dad was too tired to do anything. She didn't have many friends as a kid, usually struggling to connect with people. When she finally entered high-school, she had become really pretty. For the first time in her life she was given attention by the people around her. She found herself with friends, normal high-school drama, and boys trying to date her. Of course, there was plenty nights smoking and drinking with her friends. Her antics didn't change much in college, though she ended up becoming a model shortly after graduation.

Engel met Syren during her senior year. They ended up working together on one of Engel's photoshoots. Syren was her sylist for that brand, and the two ended up talking a lot. Enough that when Syren lost her job for fighting with her boss, they kept in contact with each other. Soon the two of them started dating, then living with each other to save cost in the big city. They're relationship was good in the beginning, but it didn't take long for Syren's cannibalistic tendencies to get to Engel. She couldn't leave the love of her life, but her substance use continued to get worse. She tries to stay sober in order to help her girlfriend, but does admittedly struggle.
