Syren was born in a small community of other sirens living on the outskirts of society. Sirens were hunted and hated, accused of constantly tempting innocent men into cheating on their wives or seducing daughters into joining them. The truth didn't ever really matter, as they were simply always going to be outnumbmered. After years of being an object to be desired and abused at the same time, sirens had grouped into small encalves of women peacefully living their lives together. That is where Syren grew up. Her birth name was not Syren, but she refuses to tell anyone what it was. Sometime in her late childhood, her community was hunted down and she was taken from her mother to be "saved" from her siren upbringing. Now surronded by men, she was outnumbered like those who came before her. After years of men telling her that it was her fault for being a siren, that it was her fault for being tempting, that she was intrinstically lesser than everyone around her, that she should be grateful that anyone would tolerate her, she grew livid. She carved hearts and crosses on herself in an attempt to make herself less desireable so she would be left alone. When even mutalating herself couldn't save her, she let herself become consumed by her hatred. She found her only solace in eating the men who had taught her to hate herself, so that she could feel in control of their bodies like they had controlled hers. It was an act of pure hatred and spite, but her only form of self-love. She escaped so that they wouldn't put her down for her crimes and changed her name, moving to the city as a young, bitter adult.

Syren met Engel soon after she moved. It was the first time she was ever truly attracted to someone. The two of them started dating and Syren finally felt some sense of peace. The two of them were good to each other when together, but Syren couldn't stand being apart. It brought all the time she spent isolated and it drove her mad. She couldn't give up her hatred or cannibalistic tendencies either. Their relationship is best described as rocky, though Syren is trying to be better for her girlfriend.
