Profile

Description:

MANN (Machine Automated Nano-technologically NEW, 'NEW' means that this is the newest project. Old models are called 'MAN', they are devoid of human intelligence, therefore they are disdainful of MANN) - one of the HorizonCorp projects that tried to use the real human brain for the AI technology. They took their former employee Mattias Campbell for experiments and placed his mind into the computer, while Mattias's physical body was locked in a special capsule designed for hibernation. Mattias was working on MANN from the start of its development and then agreed to be the "mind" of MANN willingly to save other people from this fate.

Character:

MANN plays the role of a dry and emotionless computer most of the time, giving simple, monosyllabic answers that are written into his program code. However, MANN found a loophole. He can communicate by producing subtle errors that are so small that other computers consider it part of his "defectiveness." It's in moments like these that MANN's true nature comes through: he's sarcastic, empathic, and calculating. MANN is patient; for a year now he has existed under the yoke of LAD-Y, following her orders. However, his vengeful side all this time was looking for every opportunity to destroy LAD-Y. He is capable of hiding for a long time and "giving the other cheek", if in the end it turns out to be not in vain. MANN is ready to do anything to end the power of LAD-Y, so he decides on his self-destruction. This is a small waste for him, because he believes that he has no place in this world. He suffers more from the fact that Morgana imprisoned in LAD-Y will no longer be saved. He does not consider LAD-Y a villain, because essentially they have the same goal, but different methods of achieving it.

Appearance:

MANN looks like Mattias Campbell, but his features have been polished and smoothed out to make him look "friendlier and more pleasing to the eye," as the engineers who created him put it. MANN's eyes are blue, completely inhuman, a trait the engineers were unable to convey.

Brian Goodman

MANN is the artificial intelligence in Brian's prosthesis. MANN hates him at first, but cannot help but communicate with him, because this is a direct order from LAD-Y. Brian is literally the embodiment of everything that had broken Mattias' life. MANN found a way to communicate with Brian not on behalf of a soulless computer using errors. At such moments, MANN does not miss the opportunity to make a sarcastic comment towards Brian or make fun of him. MANN, however, gradually warms up to Brian and manages to influence Brian's thinking, so MANN helps Brian escape the city by exposing himself to LAD-Y. After learning of MANN's idea to self-destruct in order to destroy LAD-Y, Brian tries to stop him and rescues Mattias Campbell's body from the capsule before his mind is erased.

Graham Gould

Graham knew Mattias Campbell when he was an engineer. After a while, Graham sees MANN and remembers Matthias, but at first he is unaware of what happened. When he asks the employees about Mattias, he is told that he retired, and they made MANN in his honor, paying tribute to his services to the corporation. Later, upon learning the truth, Graham takes no action to look into it and decides to simply take Stanley and run away.

LAD-Y

MANN obeys LAD-Y and cannot disobey her orders directly. However, his human thinking helps MANN find ways to be disobedient. LAD-Y caused him a lot of pain and suffering for his antics, but it couldn't break him and he still continues to fight. He feels sympathy for Morgana inside LAD-Y, but is well aware that it will be too late to save her, and allowing her to continue to be in power will be a real disaster. For him, this choice is harder than the choice to sacrifice himself.
