Non was born Yasha Bariatinsky, the second child of a once-influential and very old Russian family which had since suffered many financial losses and fallen into disrepute. Born with Chédiak–Higashi syndrome inherited from generations of royal inbreeding, she was given up as a young child because her family couldn’t afford to keep paying her expensive medical fees.

Almost immediately, Yasha was snatched up and adopted by one of the top-ranking members of the Albanian Mafia, and with their resources was able to live a largely normal life after having several bone-marrow transplants as a child. She lived quite happily with her adopted siblings; even the initially cold eldest daughter eventually warmed up to her, while the household servants and relatively younger (still 2-3 years older) siblings fussed over Yasha because she was sickly and in pain all the time.

One by one, Yasha’s siblings left her to be inducted as high-ranking members of the mafia clan. She, too, waited her turn, until her adoptive father unexpectedly summoned her for a meeting when she was 14. They had spoken only a few times before, and now he told Yasha her true purpose; she was only meant to be a bargaining chip in case her birth family ever rose to power again.

Furious and betrayed, Yasha voluntarily exiled herself to the furthest reaches of the clan’s influence and began climbing up, determined to prove herself as more than someone meant to sit tight and look pretty. Her intelligence and talent ensured a swift rise to power, until one of her riskier ventures failed, endangering the entire family. Yasha’s comrades were killed from within the clan as punishment for their failure, until she was the only one left alive. Unable to face her overwhelming guilt and anger, Yasha killed herself, and woke within the hour as a FMN.

Currently, Non operates primarily in Eastern Europe. Her base of operations is in Japan, which is where she's been attempting to widen her sphere of influence in East Asia since her rebirth, but Ilyich's chokehold on the coasts of the South China Sea have stymied her, and their forces maintain a contentious relationship. Non may have hit upon a solution, however; an unconventional arrangement with a certain third party could provide the blackmail she needs to undermine Ilyich — and even if she doesn't succeed, her wild card may just take care of the rest.

More recent causes for conflict include Vicente, a trade partner in the south whose already unreasonable demands grow ever-higher, and Oscar, an unpredictable variable steamrolling the criminal power structure in Western Europe. Dexter, though a prominent force in the US underground, is too far from Non’s sphere of influence for her to really consider him a threat; she’s keeping a close eye on him for now. Rome she's more wary of, since she recalls when he worked for the Albanian Mafia before killing one of their best strike teams and immigrating to the US with his daughter.

Non is extremely bitter regarding her former family. Before her death, her loyalty was exclusively to the Albanian Mafia — now she has her own crime network, formidable in its own right, but she still won’t step foot anywhere near Russia. She is not particularly attached to a life of crime in itself, but she works because it’s the only thing she knows how to do well, and because it's something she's been proud of her entire life. She isn’t shy about her expertise, nor the fact that she can talk business in sixteen languages. Her reliability and restraint across her international affairs has given her a certain reputation amongst criminal circles, and for a crime lord Non is known to be fairly moral.

Unlike her birth clan, Non will give everyone a chance to prove themselves regardless of nationality, and is able to forge connections everywhere she goes as a result. She has a tendency to try and cultivate potential acquaintances and allies; it’s an instinct she’s never really been able to train out of herself (though admittedly she hasn’t really tried too hard because she’s aware of how useful it is) despite her reluctance to form connections or get close to people after the incident that led to the decimation of her team. Her henchmen are incredibly loyal to her, but she purposely tries to keep her distance because it’ll hurt her if she loses them again.

Non is referred to as as Fajkua (raptor) within her organization. She's reluctant to use her birth name, but will if she has to, generally if she's moving within family-occupied territory.

Non's hair is naturally silver, but she dyed it black because she drew stares in Japan. She embraces casual, anonymous clothing whenever she's undercover in Tokyo, finding it freeing, though she's generally given up on looking too feminine.

Albanian and Russian are Non's mother tongues. She speaks Japanese, Chinese and English near-fluently, while she's a bit rusty but can get by in French, German, Italian, and Spanish.

Non took HRT injections for a few months and had a vaginoplasty in a West Berlin clinic during one of her earliest missions. She was physically returned to her pre-transitioned state after becoming a FMN and despised it, but given her accelerated healing there was nothing she could do.
