Without you, Dad… I would be nothing.
Locustpaw is a very troubled trainee, to say the least. With an extremely rough and cutthroat life at home and only a father who gives him any illusion of love, he‘s had one of the worst cards dealt to him since his birth. Having been ruthlessly bullied by three of his siblings and even his mother growing up, Locustpaw is always on the defense and takes almost everything as a challenge or insult, being very easily offended. He often assumes the worst of others, especially of she-cats since he was looked down upon and neglected for being a tom by his mother and bullied relentlessly by both of his sisters. The only one who’s ever given him any form of positive attention was his father, who Locustpaw believes is the only cat who cares about him and believes in him. However, even his father’s “love” is conditional, as the trainee is put under extremely high pressure to be exactly what his father wants him to be. And more than anything, Locustpaw desperately does not want to disappoint the only one who’s ever seen any potential in him.
Locustpaw is well-known for his horrendous attitude towards most cats— especially she-cats. The environment in which he was “raised” in shaped him into a deeply jealous and bitter tom, with a sharp tongue and chronically defensive and snappy attitude. Above all, he is desperate to be good enough for his parents— though namely just his father— being obedient to their orders and doing whatever they say in order to please them. Towards everyone else, Locustpaw is very petty and judgmental, not hesitating to spring onto any mistake or flaw he sees in another cat. He holds onto grudges he forms on others for a very long time, being vengeful and persistent with spiteful tendencies. All in all, his bad behavior is largely rooted in him being extremely insecure of himself and projecting it onto everyone else around him.

Locustpaw had probably one of the worst starts in life anyone could get. His parents conceived him and his four siblings for the sole purpose of bringing about a “new era” for GatorClan— one in which the strong would rule with an iron fist and the weak would be rooted out. They were not given the proper love and care and parent should have for their kits, instead being nothing but a means to an end for them. And this fact has not changed even now that they’re all trainees.
KITHOOD
Locustpaw’s kithood was… rough, to say the least. From the start, his mother Darkwhisper gave him far less attention than his sisters, Barracudakit and Bravekit, as she blatantly favored the latter two over her three sons. This already planted the seed of jealousy within Locustkit from the start— despite him getting extra attention from his father, Condorcackle, compared to his two brothers who got next to nothing. On top of this, all of his siblings— except for Dawnkit— relentlessly bullied Locustkit throughout his whole kithood, being one of the easiest of the siblings to pick on and humiliate. Instead of the brotherly/sisterly bond most siblings should have, these kits were all competitors with one another, fighting for the approval of their cutthroat, loveless parents who only valued those who were strong enough to dominate others on their own. And in the beginning, Locustkit was not one of those kits, and as such was an easy target for his stronger, more ruthless siblings. But over time, after being kicked down time and time and time again, Locustkit‘s fear channeled into rage, and that rage became the only thing he knew how to use to defend himself. And so, he began fighting back… at the cost of only knowing how to fight back.

- Locustpaw can be considered a misogynist, but his misogyny doesn’t come from a feeling of superiority. It comes from a deeply rooted jealousy and fear of she-cats and his belief that just because they are she-cats, they will somehow have it easier than him. Not only that, but his neglectful mother and abusive sisters has given him a very negative association with she-cats, and he by default assumes that all she-cats will be as pretentious and cruel as his mother and sisters, unless they somehow prove to him otherwise.
- Locustpaw’s namesake and uncle, Cicadablaze, was actually killed by Condorcackle himself after he witnessed Cicadablaze having an affair with a loner— whom he killed as well. He named the son that looked most like him something similar to Cicada, hence Locustpaw’s name.
