Being an affair child isn't easy in most situations, but Nova came into the world loved only by their mother; with her gone, they ended up with their paternal family.
They tried to get Nova to be a "normal girl" but quickly discovered this wasn't happening. After a stint at boarding school Nova returned, top surgery done and all, further putting their family through it out of spite.
Since Nova's existence has been a bit nebulous, the new strategy their family has chosen is to present them as a man. Nova is playing along with it to avoid the drama while they try to figure out where to go in life to get away from the family.
- Nova is an aspiring musician, but they haven't had much luck as of yet.
- They have always been one to cause trouble on purpose.
- Nova has one ally on the inside, their older half-sister.
Nova has a very chill attitude to just about anything - they will do whatever they want, whenever they want, in whatever way they want. As a child, they played along with what their paternal family wanted, but after acting out as a teen they got sent away, and stopped giving a damn. They especially despise old-fashioned rules that doesn't make sense to them - if it sounds stupid, Nova will just not obey.
Nova wants to pretend like they don't care about anything, but in reality they are jaded about life; they've got nothing TO care about, and therefore struggles to change their attitude.
This of course changes somewhat when they meet Aurora; finally there's someone to talk to, to be with, to trust.

They meet at a party, both feeling stuffy and trying to get away from the action.
Aurora initially bristles, having heard about this supposed "son" of Nova's family, but they quickly clear up the fact that Nova is in fact not a man, and this seems to immediately get her to relax.
They quite like her after finding out how she seems to enjoy breaking rules too.

Nova's only real ally on the inside of the household, Cece has always been there to get Nova out of any real trouble, though she isn't around much, leading to Nova feeling lonely at home most of the time with no one to talk to.
She's a lot older and very busy, they do have a bit of distance, meaning she's more of a protector than an actual friend.
- Nova just recently had top surgery in the past year; they don't see this as something to hide, and is in fact extremely proud to show them off - it acts as an extra "fuck you" to their family who try to put them into convenient gender boxes. They love wearing sheer shirts, low-cut shirts, button shirts with the buttons undone, or just straight up going shirtless under a jacket.
- They tend towards simple, gender-neutral outfits, though Nova is also known to wear a lot of bling on occasion. It just depends on their mood. Being very tall, they usually shop in mens' sections, and takes to modifying clothing to fit them.
- The green and pink was a nerve-wracking combo to make for this design, but I actually am very happy with how it came out. It's unconventional and eye-catching, and that's exactly how Nova is as a person.
