[ IRIS . they/them .  superhero . “LUNA MOTH” ]

aka “the siren”

introducing: the characters that took over as my main hyperfixation story……. and originally started out as just a superhero au of my other story that resided in my brain nonstop.

iris liào! aka the superhero known as luna moth. they are agender/nonbinary, 25, blind, and have a superpower often described as a “siren voice” where their words can force people to do what they say [when they choose to use their power, ofc, not all the time]. it’s more effective when they sing, which they refuse to do. they’re autistic and often lose speech when they shut down, so they regard their power are kind of useless. in general they’d much rather shoot their enemies than use their powers. this is why they rejected the many proposed ideas for their hero identity that centered around sirens or anything else based on their power, instead choosing one that corresponded with their long-time special interest of moths [and insects in general, but mostly moths]. the media will sometimes refer to them as “the siren”, though.

iris is the child of an incredibly well-loved hero who died when iris was very young, and they began to lose their vision as a late teen with it being fully gone not long after— both of these things push them to work themself past their limit constantly in order to “prove” themself.

they’re a very self-sacrificing person, but they’re also incredibly stubborn and strong-willed. they refuse to adapt or accept most change. on the surface they’re very bubbly and bright, though soft-spoken and introverted, but the majority of this is the mask they’ve learned to put on to be more appealing to other people. when they’re not actively putting on this mask, iris is way more likely to have a blank expression and a flat tone of voice, and the pessimism their conversations reflect is more accurate to their true thoughts.

they’re known publicly for a lot of things, but the biggest draw to them past their diversity check marks is their intense rivalry with the villain duo known as solstice and eclipse. the three have such a unique dynamic that their fights have very high watch rates on tv and social media… which is the main reason iris hasn’t been removed from their job despite their hatred of attention on themself. half of the world ships luna moth with at least one of their enemies. iris hates them, but they won’t lie: solstice and eclipse probably talk to them more and know more about them than any of their coworkers. and their fights are pretty enjoyable, actually, even if the hours spent in the clinic afterwards aren’t…

fun fact: before they lost their sight and towards the beginning of their training to become a hero, iris loved figure skating and dreamt of doing it professionally, though they knew they wouldn’t have the time with their impending career as a hero. it brought them a lot of joy, though, especially on hard days where they doubted their own abilities. they abandoned it as a hobby as they began to receive more comments doubting if they should even continue their hero training with their vision loss, instead focusing everything on proving themself to be capable enough.
