[ EZRA . he/they . supervillain . “SOLSTICE” ]

aka “the knight”

introducing: the characters that took over as my main hyperfixation story……. and originally started out as just a superhero au of my other story that resided in my brain nonstop.

ezra calloway! aka the villain known as solstice, one half of the villain duo of eclipse and solstice. he is 28, nonbinary, and his superpower allows him to create portals that take you from one place to another set place, which can be anywhere as long as ezra knows what it looks like— and ideally is a place he’s been to, though it’s not impossible for him to create portals to places he’s only seen. just a lot harder. they are very much a brute force kind of guy, the complete opposite of his partner in life and crime, lydia. he is incredibly dismissive of anything he’s told to do, being known instead for his unpredictability. despite that, they are also well-known to drop everything to do near-anything eclipse tells them to, and most of the duo’s villainous business is under her control while they back her up and do the work that gets blood on their hands and keeps it off hers. this is the kind of behavior that earned him the common media nickname of “the knight,” though less kind takes also compare him to a dog. lydia herself prefers to call them her “prince.”

ezra has origins as a vigilante— doing what they thought was right, while avoiding the whole “strict rules” thing the hero organization has going on and being able to cause their own little problems from time to time. but he quickly became disillusioned with the whole “saving people” thing and, as his worldview shifted to be more negative, so too did his actions. there was finally one big incident, involving him meeting lydia for the third or fourth time, that got them officially branded as a villain.

though he’s usually considered as much of a charmer as lydia is, ezra is equally considered an overconfident, prideful person. they refuse to consider failure as an option for them and therefore talk and act as if it isn’t possible. his impulsivity makes it seem like this would be impractical, but infuriatingly enough, it always works. they are exactly the kind of person you hate for being so smug and bragging all the time, and who it seems would underperform because they don’t seem to try, but end up way more successful than they have any right to be. like his partner, ezra does have a small list of people he genuinely cares for and can be the sweetest person to, and he treats those people just as he treats lydia. but they don’t give a shit about the rest of the world outside of that list and will burn anyone who harms their people.

lydia and ezra are so famous in big part because they make such a good duo, so clearly adoring of each other and so very deadly when they want to be. this and their charm has the world divided in opinions on them. but the other reason they’re so popular is their intense rivalry with the hero known as luna moth. the three have such a unique dynamic that their fights have very high watch rates on tv and social media. ezra has always considered luna moth to be equally matched with him in strength, which of course he refuses to admit. but both villains have a high respect for luna moth that they don’t hold for other heroes, though luna moth doesn’t realize it.

fun fact: ezra has always wished his superpower was fire. since they were a kid who hadn’t shown any signs of any powers yet, they’d play pretend that they had and that it was the elemental control over fire. unfortunately, in his eyes anyway, his powers developed differently, but he always though fire would have been much cooler and much more “on brand” for him. of course, he’s learned how to use his powers now to the best of his abilities… but you can’t exactly blame them for being a bit of an arsonist as well, surely?
