[This character's bio is written with the assumption that the reader is familiar with the standard game-era lore of Team Fortress 2. Additionally, there are many areas where the lore differentiates or has been expanded upon that only those acquainted with TF2 lore will be able to recognise.]

Analysis:

Marshal was hired by Builders League very abruptly in comparison to most and was given a powerful position almost immediately, presumably thanks to his experience on the frontline in other conflicts. He is a shrewd and secretive man who views his subordinates as merely assets, mentally stripping them of character or value. He argues this enables him to be more decisive and successful in his strategies, and whilst this is true, many fear being assigned to his division as it is almost an assured death sentence. The mysterious nature of Marshal’s employment are a common topic of conversation for BLU’s workers, who like to theorise on what promises (or threats) BLU made in order to gain the Marshal’s services. Regardless of the reason, Marshal now serves BLU as an advisor in the Ground Coordination branch, using his experience and old-world values to provide insight during the height of the Gravel Wars.

Lore:

Despite what many of BLU’s employees theorise, the truth behind his employment is that Marshal simply missed the violence and control his military days brought him. There was an attempt at blackmail, which in part succeeded, but ultimately Marshal was more than happy to take a position behind the frontlines once more. Following the campaign where Director lost his son under Marshal’s command, when confronted by a distraught Director, Marshal offered no apology or condolences and claimed he was satisfied by the losses and information acquired by the ultimately failed campaign. Director would go on to despise Marshal for his jaded perspective and blame him for the loss of his son, secretly vowing to claim vengeance.
