Despite her looks now, Ellis used to be a daughter of a well-off estate. Not quite on the level of Celestine's family, but they were doing well enough.
With her tall stature and natural charisma, she ended up attracting the attention of many girls in her age group, to the point that it got on the nerves of the eldest son of a much richer family. After talking it over, Ellis decided to "disappear". She was given an ultimatum of getting married to a man, or to go work at a faraway estate as a gardener.
She was set up with the Ager family, a bonkers rich family on the other side of the country, where she'd take over for the old gardener. This was a huge plus for her, as she has always wanted nothing more than to take care of plants full time. Her relationship with her family is strained, but at the very least, they didn't want her to suffer.
- Despite how she dresses now, she used to wear cute fancy dresses.

Laid-back and charming, Ellis is just an inherently lovable person. It's hard not to fall for her with her smooth voice and soft smiles. She is mostly unaware of the effect this has on people.
She's very much a nerd at her core, obsessed with flowers to a fault, but that didn't mean she stayed away from relations - in fact, the opposite. She took many a female lover while in the circus of the courts and parties, and this was exactly what caused umbridge with the men in her age group.
With her personality, she's surprisingly dense; she is experienced with being a lover, but her ability to flirt with someone on purpose is near zero. She has no idea of how Celestine feels for her, though she does find her fascinating in a way no lover has made her before.

The lady of the house. She is of unprecedented beauty, and Ellis isn't blind to that at all, but she's very focused on her job. She has no idea of the intense romantic and sexual feelings that Celestine is developing for her, and that her flowery messages have only made those feelings more intense.
They get along surprisingly well, talking about flowers; she is constantly asking Ellis for more details on how to grow flowers, on how she manages the garden, watching her work.
- Ellis is always covered in dirt. Basically every single day of her life, she spends covered in dirt from her work. She makes sure to take a proper bath every night after work, but she gets dirty all over again the next day, and this just repeats. Dirt seems to sneak onto every nook and cranny of her body, making her baths take longer.
- The freedom achieved from leaving her old life behind is most obviously reflected in the way she dresses now; she has ditched any manner of feminine clothing, especially corsets and stays of any kind, and goes around with usually only a shirt. She leaves the shirt open on hot days, uncaring for people being able to see her chest; it doesn't bother her that people see, she's not very attached to them.
- She's always carrying tools in her belt for gardening work, and she wears very well-loved utility boots. Her hair is always stuck in a messy side-pony.
