Early Life

Chaya and her siblings were all born in the lAlvarez Empire. A country only in the loosest sense of the word, it was a cruel place with a harsh climate and city-states engaged in a near constant state of war united only in their lust for power and loyalty to their emperor, Spriggan. It was a hard place to live but it was made easier by her parents. Mina and Harim Khouri were kind people who loved each other and their children. Both were gifted wizards in his imperial highness's military, but while Mina specialized in earth-make magic, Harim was a dragon slayer of the sixth generation ( his dragon slayer magic had been handed down through his family for centuries, taught at it's inception by the earth dragon Gaea.).

It was this strength of magic that rendered Chaya's father a threat to both himself and his country. Eventually the fate that befell all members of his clan came for him: his dragon seed started to bloom and rather than end his life as his predecessors had, he searched for a cure. His search was in vain and he completed his transformation, slaying three-quarters of Katrez city before the emperor ended his life. For Harim's crimes, Mina and her children were banished from the continent and promised execution should they ever seek to return.

Traveling West

Fearing the emperor's wrath, Mina Khouri  gained herself and her children passage in a trading caravan heading west as soon as she was able. Her plan was to set up a life in the country of Seven, a land replete with mountains and honest work for earth-based wizards. During the journey, however, Mina grew ill and without any money or means of communicating her illness due to a language barrier, she passed away, leaving Chaya in the hands of her elder siblings. 

Without their mother to advocate for them and their coffers dry from heavy taxes from the caravan's leader, the Khouri siblings were left starving and nearly destitute. Unable to pay their debts for food and shelter, they were made to walk beside the wagons, using what little earth magic they knew to ease the way of the other travelers through the rocky mountain passes of the land that was to be their home. Chaya does not remember much from this time, only that she missed her mother and that she was always hungry.

One night, when they'd reached the coast, Bahir and Alula- her older siblings- woke her, made her dress, gathered up all of their meager possessions and snuck down to the dock. They set sail from Minstrel that night as stowaways and by the time they were discovered, they were already in Hargeon Town Harbor.

Once ejected from the ship, Chaya and her siblings roamed around the port city scrapping for survival in the refuse. The eldest of them, Ariah, used what little magic she knew to craft clay golems and put on street performances. If they were lucky, they'd earn enough Jenny to split a pork bun three ways. They were very rarely lucky. 

Fairy Tail

That the Khouri siblings came into contact with the guild they would later call home was nothing short of providence. Tired of the hunger that seemed a constant plague, Chaya -then seven- used her own magic for the first time to create what she thought was a way out of it. She used a spell that would later become a hallmark of her own unique brand of earth magic: Heist. The spell was simple enough: the caster used earth magic to seek out precious metals and gems and then, once they were found, snatched them back to their location. 

Tenrou Island

When the S-Class mage trials were announced, Chaya begged to be included or allowed to tag along with her siblings, but was rebuffed on both fronts. At age fourteen, she still didn't have a solid handle on her
