DILIGENT ambitious wrathful

Traveling place to place as a mercenary, Theseus is an impulsive, reckless sword for hire who journeys wherever he finds his work takes him. He's not enthusiastic about his profession, though tries to maintain morals through his line of work. Even if he'll have to do things he often otherwise wouldn't, Theseus forces it out of his mind. In his eyes, the weak will die and the strong will thrive, he refuses to become prey to his own weaknesses. Once boyish and hopeful, head filled with stories of heros, Theseus once strived to become a warrior, but lost his way after the death of his mother, now reduced to living hire-to-hire.
Though he attempts to carry morality through his assignments, recently, as he's continued through life, guilt weighing on him as heavy as bricks, or rocks tied to his ankles, he's slowly been loosing himself, becoming more and more like the monster he sees himself as, leaning to accept his anger and malice as a part of himself, despite the teachings of his mother.

Mentions loss of a limb, child abuse, etc. Maintains violent content, view at your own risk. ᅳ Viewer discretion is advised

To get what you deserve, you're gonna have to kill me. That's what this country is, every man equal, every man for himself.
DILIGENCE

'devoted, painstaking work and application to accomplish an undertaking'

She used to tell me stories of how she lost another son, how she couldn’t have a child, then I seemed to bless her.

No matter what, Theseus will dedicate all of himself to the task at hand. It's almost scary. He's unwilling to half-ass something, even if he hates what he has to do. He pays attention to detail and takes pride in his work, ensuring that every job is completed to the best of his ability. If you're hesitant about hiring someone for a job, Theseus will always prove to be reliable. He'll follow through on his responsibilities, even if he may complain in grumbles under his breath. Most importantly, he'll want to finish an assignment first, and socialize later, if he even decides to talk to others.

NOTES

  • Secretly, it brings Theseus a great amount of pride to effectively complete a job, regardless of how cruel it is.
AMBITIOUS

'having a strong desire for success, achievement, power, or wealth'

That’s what she used to call me; her little blessing. Her token of greatness.

Ever since he was little, Theseus strived for greatness. He needed to be better, he needed to excel. If he was considered talented by those watching him, that itself wasn't enough either. He has a burning desire to improve and reach a height of power. Theseus refuses to let himself have a decline in skill, he must always be training to be the best he can be. Driven by the desire to make his mother proud, all Theseus could do was continue to train and push himself, even if he was exhausted.

NOTES

  • His ambition is considered to be one of, if not his only fatal flaw. It'll drive him to the point of collapse.
WRATHFUL

'full of or characterized by intense anger'

It’s why I swore I would become something magnificent, a figure that’d make enemies quiver in fear, and allies bow their heads with respect.

Consumed by intense anger, fury, and a desire for vengeance, Theseus is guided by the cruel hand of rage. He's never stopped greiving his mother's death, and his anger, which teeters on the line of horrific is only further fueled by the unfortunate circumstance of his youth. Theseus doesn't care about those he's hurt in the past when in relation to his source of malice, he'd gladly guide his blade to them once more. If those who've wronged him suddenly rose from the dead, he wouldn't do anything differently. He believes he'd bring his mother honor by forcing his father to stare into his eyes while plunging his sword through his chest, wataching the light finally die from his eyes.

NOTES

  • His main source of anger is directed to his father after learning the true origins of his legacy, though it's quickly aimed at anyone who provokes him the tiniest bit, unable to control it.

CHAPTER 01

A child manifested from nature, left to the elements.

That's all there is, living and dying
Once a greiving mother who lost her son to disease, Aethra, a poor shepard who lived in poverty while serving the Othonos family, a rich and powerful lineage carried with prestiege, she struggled day to day to work while coping with the death of her son. Aethra was known for her beauty despite her lower class, which made her begrudgingly popular amongst the men of the Othonos family. Aethra perceviered regardless of the challenges set onto her, for she had no choice but to strive to complete her job well.
The mother was dragging through the days, desperate for someone to fill the hole left by her missing family. So one desperate night, Aethra prayed to whatever god would listen, begging for a child, or a person to care for. She believed no one would listen, in her eyes this was a cry to the gods which would serve as nothing but a vent in the grand scheme of the universe. She continued about her work, unknowingly broadcasting her wish of desperation successfully.
Little did she know, Aethra's prayer was heard by a god, one of the forest and changing of seasons. He made himself known to her, telling the former mother to venture to the forest's edge, and what she sought would be there. At first there was nothing, Aethra figured it to be a cruel joke, until there was crying heard from piles of leaves which seemed a scarlet red. Thus Theseus was born into the world, crafted from a wish and the kindness of nature.

NOTES

  • Earning the affection of a god, Theseus was a gift to his mother, unaware of what it'd bring upon him in the future.

CHAPTER 02

Gifted due to the godliness coarsing through his veins, a knight was made.

I believe there's winners, and losers. Nothing else besides that.
Theseus lived amongst his mother, unaware of his strange heritage. He believed he was the son of one of the many men within the family she was employed by, not that he’d ever hold it against her. Theseus worked alongside her, herding sheep, while at night, Aethra filled his head with stories of figures who were born of godly influence. Theseus was marveled by the tales of heroes who could wield a blade in motions that seemed to come to them more naturally than breathing. He wanted to strive to be the same, a heroic character who could live on in stories told over fires deep within the night. Aethra noticed her son’s ambitions, and with the little money she had, scraped by to buy Theseus a sword crafted from the finest steel she could afford.
The boy found he wasn’t just well-versed in sword fighting, he was a natural. Every move came to him like nothing before. He could do this better than he herded sheep. Unfortunately for Theseus, his skill was noticed by one of the members of the family they served. As a way of making money via illegal gambling, Theseus was forced to fight within a barn, provided opponents, men of all ages who felt they could take their chance against the young swordsman. Miraculously, he managed to thrive through every battle, unbeknownst to him, this was due to his god given heritage.
Theseus’s success and impressive skill slowly swept through his village as a mere rumor at first, whispers told of a boy capable of taking down men that appeared as strong as an ox. Aethra was horrified with the business her son was involved in, though knew she couldn't do anything to stop it. Theseus began to be known as a prodigy as young as twelve. Striving from fight to fight, match to match, dual to dual, Theseus refused to lose and let his story become drowned by his failure. He would be something great, it was something he swore to his mother, who'd he bring honor to, and himself, the moon, and the stars.

NOTES

  • Discovering his talents, Theseus was plunged into a world of violence and repeated duals, despite his mother's wishes.

CHAPTER 03

Ambition is the driving force for us all, until it courpts man on the path of power.

I want tomorrow to mean more than today. I want this whole damn shitshow to have some kind of meaning I haven’t understood, but I ain’t holding my breath.
Theseus continued to fight, honing his strength. No matter the weapon, he seemed to excel. The object used made no difference to him. He was a force to be reckoned with, many traveled miles to observe his duals. Aethra expressed disappointment in her son’s indulgence, though he swore the matches were just a means to earn some form of money. Theseus strived to eventually gain enough wealth to save his mother from her brutal employment.
At first, that’s what his fights were, a means to the end. But the more duals he won, the more ambitious he became. Theseus grew power hungry, living on a constant high from praise and victory. He was consumed by greed, cocky and brandishing a large ego, Theseus felt he was untouchable. The boy was almost as egotistical as the family he served, and who could blame him? His skill was compared to one of the gods, some claimed he’d bleed ichor if a blade managed to actually knick his skin. It was no wonder he grew to become a shell of the child who wanted to become a noble hero.
Theseus remained this way until another spawn of a god made her way to the barn he fought within. Unable to fathom losing such a match, he accepted the tiefling’s challenge, who swore she could easily best him. Whether it was his attitude or his lack of skill compared to her was unknown, but that night, his first loss was set into stone. The battle was brutal. With every swing of the sword, this mysterious tiefling managed to match and even overcome his strength. Theseus underestimated his opponent, and in turn, lost an arm in this dual. Unable to fight for weeks, he was overcome with shame. Though he had to continue his battles, the loss of his arm couldn't stop him. It took time for the boy to adapt, frustrated and distraught by his shattered ego. The tiefling seemed to completely disappear after their duel, leaving Theseus wondering if she’d ever return for a rematch.

NOTES

  • Growing cocky and overly confident in his skill, Theseus lost an arm in battle, serving as a reminder of his failures.

CHAPTER 04

Once striving to be a hero, his hand was guided by malice, leading to a slaughter.

Vengeance is hereby mine.
His battles continued for years, with only one warrior managing to best him. Theseus persevered to save money for his mother, who had grown increasingly weak with age. Though once he was sixteen, his world came crashing down when Aethra contracted a disease similar to the one which took her previous son’s life. Begging for a doctor to be graced upon them, or a form of medicine, the family they were employed by refused to see the dire situation they were in and denied Aethra care. Theseus spent every moment possible with her, trying to convince his mother to rest, but she refused.
On a dreary night, Aethra took her final breath and Theseus watched as the light died from her eyes. Instantly, his grief was scorched and engulfed by the flames of his anger once she revealed his true heritage, describing how he was the product of a god. Theseus felt nothing but rage. If the god who blessed her with a son could hear her prayer then, why couldn't he have helped her? Freed her from labor? Along with this, Theseus was furious with the family they served. In a flash, he took his sword in his hands and stormed the manor. In a bloodbath of death similar to cattle ready for slaughter, Theseus slain every member of the family he could find. He refused to let his mother be the only death held that night. The only lives spared were that of children.
Now labeled as a murderer with a bounty, said to be responsible for the death of this wealthy family, Theseus had to flee his village that very night, the only evidence he was the source of violence happened to be the eyewitness accounts of the children he couldn't bring himself to kill. In the present day, Theseus moves town to town frequently, taking on jobs, acting as a sword for hire, a mercenary able to assist anyone who isn't skilled enough to help himself. He’s secretly been searching for his godly parent, insistent on making them pay for neglecting his mother and himself.

NOTES

  • Theseus's anger consumed him after his mother's death, leading to the murders he's comitted, and his goal to butcher his father.

While they struggled to communicate at first, slowly, Cent learned enough of his language to speak to him, and together, the two of them pieced together what might’ve happened in Cent's situation. Cent discovered he didn’t just appear at a different location, by whatever Godly or Ungodly power, he moved forwards in time. The kingdom he was supposed to rule didn’t exist any longer, having fallen after the royal family crumbled. And better yet, Theseus and Cent learned they were brothers too, born from the same Godly parent. Whether it was chance or intentional to create their meeting, they decided to search for answers together. Now they work together and support one another, through thick and thin.

Despite the difference in age between them, Theseus and Krios managed to learn to understand each other even though they're quite different from one another. Theseus took a role of a mentor with Krios, guiding the young satyr, while also feeling inspired to be better and get his act together in order to set a decent example for the boy, who seemed unsure of how to truly navigate the world until Theseus started running his mouth.

TRIVIA

  • Though they didn't seem to get along at first, Theseus and Krios have become good friends, with Theseus looking out for him frequently, disliking who he was guided by previously.

CERBERUS
Dislikes HATES.
APPROVAL
Disapproving of her methods and the way she's dragged Krios into her path of destruction, Theseus and Cerberus never quite seem to get along. It's similar to watching divorced parents argue over custody of a child once Krios is spoken about, both having different feelins for how he should be taught and raised, since he's too young to be on his own and form his own opinions. Even if they hate one another, they're almmost freakishly similar.

ALES

APPROVAL
As Ales's job is to protect the gods she's dedicated her life to serving, Theseus's goal is to destroy them, so they naturally clash. He has a heavy hatred in his heart for Ales, viewing her as a coward and obsessive with her knight-hood. They're both ambitious to a fault and entirely diligent, though remain polar opposites when it comes to what exactly they decide to dedicate themselves to. They've encountered one another in battle before.
