Appearance

Brown, scruffy, beady eyed and long fingered Cucujus is quite the odd sight. Their coat is ill-maintained and scraggly looking with long silver hairs sprouting almost everywhere. Its eyes are pitch black with no visable pupil. Perhaps their most striking feature is their long, slender fingers tipped with sharp pointed talons. it always seems to have an odd smile plastered across its face, a feature accentuated by their white beak.

Nestling-Fledgeling

Cucujus was born to an ordinary pair of mycete who lived in the Limestone Domain. Cucujus was a very ugly baby, even by mycete standards. Their eyes were far to big for their face and their fingers abnormally long. But nevertheless their parents loved them and their siblings, raising them the best they could. Cucujus and their siblings were all given insect-based names, a testiment to their parent's love for invertibrates. Once they were old enough the young mycetes were introduced to the art of keeping and raising insects. Cucujus fell instantly in love with the little critters, especially the roaches. They practically begged their parents to allow them to play with the bugs and even to keep some as pets. They hated the idea of selling them to mycete who would gobble up the small animals. They would soon come around to the idea as they would see the need for food and lack of resources first hand.

Sub-adult

Out of all their siblings Cucujus was the one to show the most interest in their parent's occupation as insect farmers. The rest had other asperations, which was fine. Their parent's only wanted them to be happy and to chose a life for themselves that would bring them personal joy. They were secretly glad that at least one of their offspring shared their same passions. Cucujus's father took them in as his apprentice and taught it everything he knew about his trade. Cucujus loved getting to learn more about the insects and they convinced their parents to expand to new species as well.

Adult

As an adult Cucujus is the main operator of the insect farm. Their parent's help out here and there but are mostly retired and are focused on spending time with each other and their family. Cucujus specializes in trade and will trade their insects for just about anything. Their favorite thing to trade for is bones, rocks, crystals, and handmade items. They've made friends with a handful of foragers who bring them the occasional exotic live insect they find while out foraging. Sammal is their closest forager friend and while he's more high energy than Cucujus the pair get along just fine. Any insect Sammal brings back Cucujus keeps as a pet. They save their biggest and juciest feeder insects for them in return.
