He's been around for a very long time. Honestly, he couldn't tell you when he started existing, he just did. He is a protector of the forest and the forest protects him. At first he was wary of Quill, concerned that this new intruder to his forest would hurt it, but he soon became intruiged by the witch. He started watching Quill, not out of suspicion, but out of curiousity. One day, he was noticed by Quill and they started actually interacting.
