  • He only has one eye! The missing one is just smooth skin, no scarring or anything. It's like it was never there.

  • He wears vry loose and baggy clothes, more on the Femme side.

  • Loves the purple and gold he's got going on, any outfit he wears would heavily focus on these two colors.

  • Wears Earrings! I always froget them but they're supposed to be there.

Personality

Calborn is a surprisingly timid and anxious man. He's lived most of his life in isolation, and thus has trouble communicating with people. He's very consious of how he acts around others and how people percieve him.

He tries not to step on other people's toes, to the point that he will avoid confronting someone to ask a question. It takes him quite a bit of preparation to be able to talk with someone when they're in the middle of something. It's not just those that are seemingly equal in status or pwer to him, he's scared of everyone. It took him quite a bit of stumbling over his own words to even ask Key if she was willing to embark on an adventure. Whenever Cal tries to get going on a minor confrontation, all of the worst case scenarios play out at once, and in the end he spends longer hyping himself up to do it than what the interaction actually ends up being.

Despite his anxieties, Calborn is actually a rather powerful magic user, to the point that some local legends regard him as a minor deity. Cal hates these lables, and while he can't deny his semi-divine nature, it's still stifling to live under. He holds himself to a very high standard of perfection, one that he wouldn't hold anyone else around him to.

Background

Past Life

Calborn was born as the son of a powerful elf, one that was invited to take a seat at the High Court of The Realm of The Fey. Cal's memories begin right before his father was invtied, but that part of his life is punctuated by the abscense of that figure. Once news arrived of the invitaion, that's when his father first appeared in his memory. After his family relocated to the Capital, Calborn was quickly thrust into the position of a Gifted Magic User. However, this also meant that he was held to a perfection that he struggled to live up to. He found it hard to communicate when he needed help, and often found himself separated from others, for he had an image to uphold to the Realm. Despite this, Cal eventually begun to sneak away on excursions and the few days he had alone. As long as he was home before dusk, he was able to scrounge together something that could proove he had been working, alone, in his room the entire time.

During these excursions, Calborn had found a clearing in the forest, one that was far enough from the Capital that he could relax. It was deep enough into the forest that only a very well staffed search party could find him, or at least he hoped. He would come by on the days he was able to escape the stiffling atmosphere of The Court, but one day he was approached by a strange girl in the clearing. While tense at first, the two eventually became good friends. The girl's name was Minuette, and Cal found himslef looking forward to his teachings, if only so he could help her in teaching her some of them.

Dark Curse

As time went on, the interactions between Cal and Min gradually began to turn more tense. Things came to a head after Min exploded at Cal, and she told him that she was his half-sister. In the time when he was young, that's when his father had left and found her mother, but he soon came back at the promise of power within the Realm of the Fey. Minuette told Calborn to not look for her, and that's the last memory he has of her.

In the time afterwards, Cal couldn't look his family in the eye, and he grew frustrated with his father. On the day he had planned to confront him, Calborn recieved news of a powerful monster attacking a village near the border of the Realm. Fearing that Minuette would have been caught in this attack, Calborn took off and towards the village, hoping that she was still alive. Upon arriving at the village, he tried to sneak around, looking for his sister while avoiding the monster. Suddenly, he was attacked by the creature, and his left eye was stolen.

The voice from the monster told him to leave, and upon hearing it he understood that this was Minuette. However, Cal couldn't let her keep attacking, and with great hesitation, he was able to seal her away into a box. Upon his return to the Realm, he was hailed as a hero, but Calborn only felt hollow and shame. He stored the coffin of his sister within the chambers of his family's home, and would spend days next to it. While his family would try and get him to continue his work, Calborn could only look at his father with contempt.

Guardian Spirit

In the years afterwards, Calborn became increasingly detached from his family and the world around him, to the point that the only thing he could think of was the guilt that plagued him. Eventually, it came to a point that Cal sealed himself away within a pendant, so that he could live whatever existance his sister had. He was isolated for ages upon ages, alone but reliving his memories. When he was awoken, he found the amulet he had sealed himself within in the hands of a young child, Key. He offered her the prospect of going on an adventure to defeat the Dark Lord, unaware that it was his sister behind it all. Key accepted, and they were off on their adventure.

Despite all the time that had passed, Calborn found it deeply uncomfortable when he found out that he was regerded as a hero within the Realm of the Fey. While the High Court no longer existed, the story of him sealing away the monster was still immortalized, twisted within a stained glass window. He wasn't willing to do anything to set the story straight, knowing that even his own word and appearance would just solidify the conviction, and so he urged Key to get through the Realm quickly.

While continueing on their journey, Cal and Key became disoriented within Otherworld, a realm his Sister made with the magic of the Great Sage, Lurlene. Here, there was a cure that afflicted both him and key, where the two's souls began to entwine. After defeating Minuette and restoring her body, the two found that the feeling of the realm had never truly left them. While they are still mostly separate, there is a muddy border between them, and their perception of themselves and their identities has suffered because of it. Despite this, Calborn forgives his sister, perhaps a bit too much. His guilt weighs incredibly heavy on his concience, and he wants to set things right. Not just so Min can live the life that was taken from her, but also to quell the turmoil within himself.

Trivia

  • Sopping wet napkin of a Man. Very consious of his perception to others and his own actions, and thus he hides away by himself for the most part.

  • While he initially doesn't have a physical form, he is able to manifest one after Otherworld. Before this he either told Key to tell others, or just straight up possessed her body for a brief moment. He always hated taking autonomy away from her. Thankfully he doesn't have to anymore.

  • He's asked a nervous 16 year old if they hated him. He took their answer very seriously and really made the whole thing uncomfortable and really awkward. He still thinks about this interaction a lot.

  • Calborn is in a relationship with Spirit (by @luckymahou). They're both patheticguys but at least they're in it together.

Relationships

01.
Minuette
Sister

Cal is ather awkward around Min. He doesn't want to step on any toes, and thus he doesn't really bring up her past actions. He deeply loves her and is very glad she's back, so that she can live the happy life she was robbed of.

Despite that, Min does tease him and cares deeply for him too. Overall she's glad to be present, but there is a lingering sense of regret within her. Cal notices this, but he has to push himself to confront her about it. In the end, despite the years between them, Cal is still the same timid man at heart.

02.
Key
Daughter/little sister

Key is in a bit of a weird spot, considering the whole soul-mixing thing, so in a way Cal could see her as an extenstion of himself, or him as and extention of her. However, both are rather unwilling to confront the implications directly, but it's rather uncomfortable whenever it's pointed out that they're acting like eachother, or like neither of themselves.

Despite this, Cal sees key as a daughter/little sister in his life. It's atrange, and he doesn't really see himself as being a father, but he knows he's an inportant figure in Key's life. After finding out that she had run away from her family, he sees some of his past in her, and thus strives to be a positive influence on her. Even so, they do have fun and do have good times together, especially when they're somewhere new. It's baffling to Cal just how much has changed in the time he's been gone, and for Key is cool seeing stuff from around te world and meeting new people.
