Intelligence
"A curious slugcat with a proficiency for cave exploration. Armed with a headlamp as their only lightsource, they venture beneath the earth and rain. What calls you deeper, little creature?"
The Spelunker could be considered an oddity among slugcats, for they are somewhat antisocial and pursue a solitary lifestyle by exploring underground. This is not due to a lack of care for their species, however, but rather a desire to uncover more than what their former colony would show them above ground - something most slugcats would be cautious to do alone.

Dislikes
- The dark
- Bright lights
- Sudden loud noises
The Spelunker doesn't have any unique biological traits compared to other slugcats. They are, however, very good at navigating and are quite intuitive with using tools and other equipment.
Abilities
- Helmeted: Thanks to their helmet, the Spelunker takes less fall damage and is stunned for a shorter duration.
- Lamplight: They have a near-constant lightsource in the form of their headlamp
- Tunneler: The Spelunker crawls and travels through pipes faster than other slugcats.
Design
Design Notes
- They wear their helmet most of the time - it typically comes off when they're resting.
- They are shorter and stockier than the average slugcat, but not by much.
- The brown patches don't have to be identical to their reference image, but the face and ear marks are important.
Relationships
One of the few iterators that the Spelunker has made direct contact with. The slugcat gained the iterator's affection after relaying a message confirming the survival of a friend they once thought was, for all intents and purposes, dead. They enjoy TOW's company and pay them visits between caving expeditions, occasionally serving as their messenger to WTC when the need arises.
Upon entering the ruins of Watching Through Clouds' superstructure, the Spelunker was greatly intruiged - for all it knew, it just had entered a cave system the likes it had never encountered before. When they reached WTC's chamber, it was greeted with relief and confusion; just how did a slugcat find its way in, anyways?
The Spelunker often returns to Watching Through Clouds' chamber to visit them, both at the request of the fallen iterator and to deliver messages sent by Towers Of Wax. The two have a friendly relationship, although it is largely service-driven.
History
Lore still in the works.
The Spelunker, during the course of one of their expeditions, encountered an iterator who was somehow still functional, albeit in a poor condition. Their structure had been built atop very unstable ground due to spatial limitations and had ended up collapsing into the cave system below. The iterator provided the Spelunker with a task: to relay a message to another iterator nearby to signal that they were still alive and (somewhat) functional.
Meeting TOW
After their ascent back to the surface from the ruined superstructure, the Spelunker journeyed towards the iterator known as Towers Of Wax to deliver their message. Upon arrival, the iterator was overjoyed to learn that their friend was still alive, despite the poor state they now found themself in. Nevertheless, TOW was grateful for the news and became quite fond of the creature that had stumbled into their can, inviting them to visit whenever they should desire.
The Spelunker still travels the world in pursuit of exploration, but finds themself returning to the home of their newfound friend from time to time; a life of solitude leaves one feeling a bit lonely, after all.

Trivia
- Despite appearing to be a mottled brown slugcat, the Spelunker is actually just covered in copious amounts of dirt and dust.
- It's unknown how the Spelunker got their helmet. Did the Ancients create slugcat-sized mining helmets, or did the Spelunker make it themself?
- Part of the reason why the Spelunker is so drawn to caves is that they dislike the strong light of the Sun. Despite this, they are still fearful of the dark.
- The Spelunker has a Spotify playlist
