Self-proclaimed king of nightmares, Lord Nigh, as he is known by his subjects, lives on top of a isolated mountain overlooking his stolen kingdom. Old trauma has driven him to villainy, but there is more to this enigmatic figure then meets the eye.
Afraid of emotional pain and vulnerability, Maris has guarded off his heart and detached himself from society, trading his compassion for indifference. Many who have heard of him, even individuals in positions of higher power, think of him as a great force, and that it’s best to stay on the dictator’s good side when possible.
He is highly performative in every aspect of his public image, cultivating a persona of a black-hearted king who cares for no one but himself and thrives on misery.
Maris in truth thrives on the gossip and rumors, while he is competent and capable of proper rule, he is lacking in raw power that other magical beings possess, and his lack of trust in outsiders gives him little connections or allies. Whilst he is aware of this weakness, he is loath to change his ways, being a very stubborn man. It is his royal advisor that pushes for him to extend a hand to other kingdoms, and claim more power.
