Fragments of memories

Achlys’ past life is a merely a collection of hazy, fragmented memories they have left after their death. In reality they had suffered a great injury in the dark depths of caves. Their adventuring party had searched for a source of a magic in rock deeper than what they had ever seen.

What arose in front of their eyes was an ancient city, one covered in dark moss, with no light source to guide them. Sculk could be seen as a far as the eye allowed, writhing on the pillars and pulsing on the rocks. None of the party members had an idea of the horrors that stood in front of them, ready to wreack havoc on the land above them.

Long lost magick

The flooding of the numerous continents created lone islands and hid under civilizations and kingdoms. What was left got used by thiefs and hoarded by now magicless users. Centuries passed, the continents now seemingly ravaged by the ever-growing empire of Khruirith led by its infamous emperor.

Not long after the land dwellers set their foot in the ocean, magick found its way through the cracks and soil of the earth. The dormant sea was revitalized, filled with fury and longing for its former glory. What had been tainted in the sea by those on land before the flood found itself now capable of horrors no one could imagine.

Eternal torment

Decades have passed since its resurrection, and much of the flooded continent remains unknown to it. The sculk's pulse can be felt under its skin, lining the wounds and partially decomposed organs of Achlys' corpse.

To Achlys the experience of death had been bitter. Excruciating pain from the shutdown of the body is not worth the greeting from the skulls on the scythe of a reaper. The endless ocean on which they traversed in their own afterlife has only brought them melancholy. Despite all that torment Achlys does not consider a new chance at living any better than what it had in the afterlife.

The long decades

Gossip in nearby villages says the emperor had angered the primordial deities of the ocean and land.

With a hazy mind and an infested body Achlys aims to assemble its fragmented memories of the past. After all, simple sculk can not be capable of wiping out an entire adventuring party or a civilization, right?
