Profile
"One hundred years from the empire now -- The sun coming up on a world that's easy now"
-- Rhorim, The Inkblooded --
Rhorim is a hermetical mage of somewhat indeterminate age- While he appears to be in his 30s, he is at least several centuries old, hailing from the early Modern era of troll history. A former rebel, Rhorim dreamed of times long gone, before the Empire existed and mutants and mages lived freely.
Repeated betrayals from his friends and comrades left him paranoid and anxious, and shattered his efforts to march towards peace. Rhorim has a deep phobia of interaction with others. While he understands his fear is irrational, he struggles with overcoming it.
Rhorim is a writer and creative, with an interest in history, linguistics, philosphy, and social sciences- And, despite his gruff and beleaguered exterior, still quite soft at heart.
Personality
While gruff, Rhorim is well-spoken and articulate. He can be self-depreciating, having spent so much time alone he now lacks a basis for his behaviors and considering himself 'untamed and insane'. He is far less so than he presumes himself to be, and has kept together considerably well over the sweeps. He can be prone to emotional outbursts- Often anger, fear, sorrow- And is weighed down by a nameless shame and worthlessness.
While ultimately kind-hearted and sensitive, Rhorim's fear of others often prevents him from interacting regularly or meaningfully, and he fosters a deep loneliness due to his isolation, and his outward bitterness and resentment only worsens this.

Physical Attributes
Rhorim is tall with a frame that would be stocky and softer were he not underfed. He typically stands upright with his head held high, but tends to curl inwards or pull away from others when interacting. When nervous, he often puts his hands in front of himself, claws extended and teeth bared as though he might lash out. He may also fidget by rubbing at his knuckles or wringing his hands. He tends to shake, especially when speaking.
His resting expression is somewhat sour and lined with exhaustion.
His physical health is rather poor and he's somewhat prone to falling ill, and he has a very poor endurance due to a fairly sedentary lifestyle.
Mental Attributes
Rhorim sleeps whenever he feels tired, and while he generally tries to maintain some semblance of a regular sleep schedule, it can be overturned by bouts of insomnia or nightmares.
He is often despondent and somewhat disorganized in his thoughts, again due to spending so long alone without having to be cohesive or coherent to anyone else.
Rhorim has extreme anxiety centered around interaction with others, and extending through being hurt or betrayed by others. He struggles to cope with his anxiety and more often than not, it 'wins', leading to panic attacks and extreme fear.

Social
STANDING
Role & Associations
Rhorim is a hermit, rarely interacting with society except to steal what few things he needs. He deeply fears interaction with others and lives alone, using magic to make it nearly impossible for anyone to approach his hive and rarely straying far. He collects books and supplies from abandoned hives, and often leaves any belongings he wanted to get rid of at these places. He destroys his own writings when they become too numerous, not daring to leave them where someone else can read them.
Rhorim is a former rebel, but the groups he once was apart of have long since been killed off.
Voice
Rhorim has a rough, low voice with a scratchy quality making him sound older than he appears.
Lusus
Rhorim's lusus was a large tusked bear, which he parted ways from as a young adult and hasn't seen since.
Financial Status
Rhorim is entirely broke. He steals what he needs and forages or crafts what he can.
Residence
A cottage half-buried in undergrowth, deep in the woods. The cottage is surrounded by various wards which prevent others from finding the hive unless they carry a specific charm.
The hive is decently sized but cluttered, mostly with books. He has a small study room which doubles as a workshop.
Notes
Rhorim is a shadow mage and capable of spells pertaining to his elements. His name comes from the star Rho in the Boötes constellation.
Arsenal
Poison and Night
【Ability】
Rhorim's primary magic domain is Shadow and his subdomain is Poison. His abilities primarily revolve around darkness and physically disrupting the functions of the body, and are amplified in darkness or when he uses his own blood. His blood is highly toxic, imparting any number of curse-like effects when ingested, injected, or even placed on the skin.
Unseen
【Ability】
Rhorim has a passive ability which makes it difficult for others to notice him, even when he makes sound or they have to append their path to move around him. He seems to blend in entirely with his surroundings, and he can amplify this ability to make himself nearly invisible. However, the spell is broken when he begins paying direct attention to someone, or he gets their direct attention by touching or speaking to them.
Dagger
【Weapon】
The only weapon Rhorim carries is a small dagger- Usually for hunting or drawing blood for spells.
Booksmith
As well as being a writer, Rhorim makes and repairs books to fill his spare time. To avoid having an excess of books he's made, he takes great care and spends hours making high quality, beautiful books, and usually only makes them as needed.
Backstory
Early Life
Rhorim's early childhood was fairly smooth, if idyllically simple. When his eyes began to flush as a teenager, he grew anxious with this and began to hide his caste- A decision which got him targeted by his peers believing him to be a mutant. He persisted, however, which lead to his Empire stipend being stripped from him. He struggled to make ends meet and get enough to eat for a few sweeps, but as a young adult was brought into a small rebel circle. He soon began to contribute to the group, archiving and repairing the illegal books and writings which the group had rescued from the local libraries and hives. Eventually, he began to write for anti-Empire fliers and notices, which became pamphlets and newsletters. While he had a small team working with him, Rhorim was the ringleader and essential to its operation. His translations and archivals of old books also lead him into magic- And he joined a secret society of mages which overlapped somewhat with his rebel ring.
Occultist Society
While Rhorim joined the Mage's Society to share information with his colleagues and gain access to more arcane knowledge, the society's primary function was an occult following of a dead god. Rhorim didn't engage much with this aspect of the group- Which a number of members disagreed with. The Society did regular sacrificial rituals to their god, and chose to sacrifice a troll this time- And there conveniently were no volunteers, forcing each member to draw straws. The entire process was rigged so that Rhorim drew the straw that denoted him as the sacrifice.
Rhorim was not unaware of this, and hoped his friends in the society would speak out against his slaughter- But to his dismay, no one made any move to stop it.
A possessive mage who had a pitch crush on him took the opportunity to privately conduct the ritual- Beyond pleased to bind him to the altar and carve runes into him in preparation to be sacrificed. His dying throes, however, triggered a change in his innate magic, causing his blood to turn pitch black. This was taken to be a bad omen, a sign from the occultist's god, and Rhorim was saved.
Some members argued that the changing of Rhorim's blood meant that he should be sacrificed, while others believed it meant him to be a prophet or high priest. One member attempted to expose him as a mutant and one of the writers of the anti-Empire writings by appending 'The Inkblood' onto the next batch of circulated pamphlets. Fearing for his life and freedom, and facing multiple betrayals on all sides, Rhorim fled.
Life As an Outcast
Now truly considered a mutant and struggling to trust anyone he interacted with, Rhorim fled his hometown and completely disengaged from society. He lived in the wilds- Despite being completely disused to this lifestyle- And his time alone exacerbated his paranoia and anxieties. Eventually, he grew too tired and weakened to fend for himself, and entered a large, isolated castle.
Rhorim used his natural abilities as a shadow mage to remain out of sight, his presence only being noticed by missing food and supplies. The master of the hive- Seanis- eventually tried to gently interact with and help Rhorim, which was intially met with suspicion and fear. Seanis eventually gained Rhorim's hesitant trust, along with another resident of the hive, Irissa. However, Seanis went out and never returned hive- Being captured by his old Carnival and put to death for leaving. Rhorim left shortly after, first just to look for Seanis- But when he confirmed his death, Rhorim never returned to the castle and retreated back into his life of complete seclusion.
