Selfish and immature, he claims to only have his own benefits in mind. He was gifted with an attractive face and knows it, and uses that to get what he wants. He's quick to get on people's nerves (both purposefully and not). Declares himself pragmatic, but it's more of an excuse to do what he wants. 

Under the joking and irreverant front he puts up, though, he's more quick to care about others than he'd like to admit, and harbors a lot of self-hatred, dismissing any negative behavior he has by declaring that he always is and always will be an awful person. 

Being only admired on a shallow level and disliked by others is what he considers natural and easy to deal with, and he fears genuine emotional intimacy with other people, so he often intentionally has negative behavior to get the result that he thinks he knows best how to deal with and desires, in addition to difficulties he faced as a child which kept him from forming trusting relationships with other people.

He was the sole survivor of an incident involving his family as a child, and spent some time on the streets as a pickpocket in order to feed himself. He was later taken in by a Merchants Guild which also secretly doubles as a Thieves Guild when their leader discovered them. He does not get along well with or trust the rest of the Guild much, though.

He harbors a grudge against the noble class, and has no qualms about taking anything he deems they don't need from them. His masked thief persona has earned a reputation, and the knights are on constant lookout. He doesn't care much, or think he'll ever be caught, though.
