Mission Assignment Low Earth Orbit

NASA's unofficial chef, running the casual dining module Bistro Fermi in the LEO Station. Their actual job is to survey phenomena in the sky such as black holes and pulsars using their gamma-ray vision. Aside from that, they're also the resident cheerleader of the station.

Some people like to call them Marshmallow. They're personally okay with any nickname; even "CubeSat" is fine.

Gamma-Ray Vision

Fermi can sense gamma rays that collide with their Large Area Telescope, allowing them to detect phenomena that not even x-ray telescopes can see. However, this comes with a cost: their vision is pretty blurry.

Cooking Skills

Fermi can also cook, which is very strange for a being who doesn't need to eat. It was caused by the influence of some of their mission handlers being able to make some delicious creations. They prefer making pastries, though they can also make main dishes.

[In a meta sense, it's a reference to this Instagram user.]

The following are some of the most well-known dishes and drinks in Bistro Fermi, a casual dining spot in the Low Earth Orbit Station.

Entrée

Southern Californian Fish* in Lemon Butter

Delicate, pan-fried fish in lemon butter. *Fish depends on what's available for the season.

Dessert

Two-Sided Mint Jelly

Dyed grape jelly on one side and clear mint jelly on the other, accompanied with red cherries. The infrared telescope's ideal dessert.

Is He Worth It?

A mille crepe filled with blueberry cream and topped with a piece of honeycomb. The honeycomb is cut precisely in the shape of the James Webb Space Telescope's mirrors.

Beverages

Low-Battery Empowering Smoothie

A healthy yogurt smoothie made with fresh strawberries and neon pink syrup, topped with "Martian" blueberries. Truly a sign of water!

SOS Smoothie

The manifestation of sheer grit and being the lesser favorite rover. A charcoal-coated yogurt smoothie topped with graham bits and blueberry syrup. (JPL-sponsored peanut bits optional. Please inform the staff if you have peanut allergies.)

Just Chai.

"I'm sorry, Fermi, but it's just chai, not chai tea, cause that'll be tea made of tea! You'll drive the ISRO craft crazy!" (MAVEN, 2015)

Design Notes

  • Fermi's "hat" is actually their Large Area Telescope, and it's a part of their head.
  • fermi speaks with all lowercase letters because they're pretty soft-spoken. they also use a lot of shortcuts, which is convenient imo, and sometimes their speech doesnt have punctuation
  • However, Bistro Fermi's menu and Fermi's research text suggests that they're more eloquent than they let on.
  • Aside from English and Spanish, Fermi can also speak in Italian.
