ROSE • 43 • SHE/HER

"The moon has never been so bright till we would meet."

BACKSTORY

If only she knew what was awaiting her, with this madman she decided to marry... she would've probably never been there.

A SPOTLIGHT THAT NEVER SHED ENOUGH LIGHT

Rose Wendy Bodderthrone lived in Hellfirewood Burrow her entire life. In this burrow was located the Hellstorm Ranch, reputed to be the ground zero of a terrible event that occurred in these lands. But that, she would not know until a very long time, as she was not interested in farming, like her parents was; instead, she pursued a passion in ornithology and followed classes to perform as a falconer. She found birds of prey to be particularly charming, what with their beady eyes and large wings, and above all, those claws that could catch any living prey they found. The thrill to just follow one with her eyes was enough to content her and convince her to move out to Frisco.
At this time, Frisco was just recently built and inaugurated, and Rose hoped to find opportunities to grow as an expert scientist in the study of bird speices. Unfortunately, none of this happened to her. Since this city was new, there were little accommodations and businesses, and it was hardly reachable at any distance. Her being here felt so out of place, and she actually reconsidered her choice of career... but was all this really over?

HER TURN TO SHINE

After that unfortunate (and honestly self-damaging) stop at Frisco, Rose returned to her burrow. But she was far from being entirely defeated. There was still one thing she could manage to do, with her birds whisperer mastercraft. And for that, she traveled all the way to the West Pole, where she could build bird perches for her new feathery companions to rest, and she could tame them thanks to this ingenuine idea that sprouted in her head, while also making a living. Unfortunately, she quickly realized that she was not going to substain completely from this, and her parents that did not support her life choices thus far, now threatened her to cut ties and any form financial support they provided thus far for her. It was now time to find something that could come in addition of her falconery, that brought her so far. But how was she supposed to do this while knowing little about anything else in the region?
Just as she was wondering about that, Rose got to reunite with an old classmate she knew at school, when she was just child; Balthazar Urban Holliday. This is where an idea struck her; of course! If she could convince him to marry her without a dowry, she could unite their monetary strengths, and she wouldn't have to worry anymore about being in constant debt! So, she arranged a marriage with that man and since then, worked with him in his brewery company, along her falconer entreprise, where she would loan her vulturs services in exchange of some Meat. All seemed to have settled down for her, now she was in a more profitable situation. However, about twenty years later, her husband would get involved into some form of obscure occult that involved... going to her burrow's ancient ranch that was abandoned centuries ago?
All this did not mix up well with her, but after some convincing that lasted for months, she half-willingly jumped in, ready to get this done with. Balthazar chanted some form of ancient runes, and, one blood-curling ritual later, a hole formed in the rip of reality, and from out there escaped thousands upon thousands of Hellcows that waited for only one opportunity to get out of their home, only to invade theirs. Thus, the Cows Came Home.

INFERNUS INFECTUS BUBULUS

Then, after some chaos ensued, the overlord of the Hellcows -- no other than the feared Duke Bovicus! -- emmerged from the portal, and encountered the devoted humans that made them escape out of hell. To thank them, the tainted beast from beyond offered them a wish each. While Balthazar got eternal worshipping granted, thus giving him some form of unfathomable, dark super powers, Rose simeply demanded monetary gain, which Duke Bovicus granted challengingly (is that even a word?). In exchange of her immortal soul after death, the duke would grant her with the position of his official bounty hunter, as well as all the wealth that was guaranteed with it: typically your demonic pact you would form for egocentrical reasons. She accepted, and since then, she's been hunting targets for the Hellcows on demand; however, each contract she would sign would always have a goofy outcome. But did that stop her? Not at all. She went all the way from west to east to terminate all that would be in her way of achieving her goal.
One day, however, as she was tasked to hunt yet again bounties, Duke Bovicus would take it on another level; she was now missioned to arrest and kill humans: supposedly, individuals amongst a family that tried tracking activity of the Hellcows stampedes for quite some time now, a family going by the name of Barcheor-Tretchy. This took her to new heights: she had no problem taking down humans, as she knew they would defamate the cause of the Hellcows so far. But to destroy a whole family? It was the tedious task that she accepted to follow, regardless of the consequences. And for that, she was ready to go lengths to get to her objective, for about four years.

THE TRACK OF THE BARCHEOR-TRETCHY SISTERS

/!\ This is starting here that I start talking about my West of Loathing fanfiction: Wanted for Protagonizin'. If you haven't checked it out yet and want to discover what happened in it, it is perhaps the best time to do so! Otherwise, fear the fearsome consequences of going ahead with spoilers! With that out of the way, time to move back to the plot. /!\
Out of all the family members she and Balthazar -- who she rallied for this mission -- have eleminatd so far, Rose noticed that she had missed two of them that were still supposedly alive; the two sisters Camellia and Coraline Barcheor-Tretchy, daughters of Archibald P. and Celestine, who were both taken down in 1891. From there began a huge-scaled human hunt where they split tasks; as he would look for the older sister, Rose would go after Coraline. But believe that this was no cinch: even after scuffling through the entire country, going in all directions and knocking on all doors, she was still nowhere to be seen. It took her four, long, antagonizing years until she managed to find her track, in the lost town of Boring Springs. But as she was on the search for more clues, she bumped against a farmer who claimed to go all the way west for his vegetables delivery service; Robert Puntchallow. It was through convincing and deceiving tactics that she enrolled this farmer into following Coraline into all her actions, through the Manifest Railroad Company that was building tracks from one point to the other at that time. But something ticked her while she was going for more clues around her target: Camellia also seemed to be part of the Railroad camp passengers (... wasn't Balthazar supposed to be after her?). But thinking back of it, if she could hunt them both at the same time, she could possibly get double pay, right? So, her objective was set: scrap her husband, she needed these two heads on her counter by the end of this journey.
As it turned out, the train successfully made it to Frisco. But while she returned there to prevent it from going further (by destroying the only bridge available with dynamite), she enrolled yet another party member to get to her own ends; an eldery, lunatic man claiming to be Emperor Norton. Her plan activated, but never set off, for she never expected so many people to be there at the same time. And Norton was acting off the rails and stole the train! She HAD to do something, before it was too late! Fortunately, she could sneak into the train and impersonate a passenger, while the ruckus occurred; plus, Coraline was there. Now was her time. She ended up abducting her under no one's notice, and carried her to the remains of Barringtown to finish her off. However, her ultimate confrontation of her was all the more anti-climatic: Coraline and her faced each other at a duel, and it was the former that won. Rose was swiftly disposed of by a gut-splitting punch of her punching gun, and her body was sent crashing miles away. Rose has failed her mission and was now disposed of...

The Cathedral

Cheetah Mobile

Balthazar Urban Holliday

Though she is thankful he could get her out of her predicament, she still thinks he is thicked-skull at moments, which makes it all the more infrutuating to her, who needs to act fast. Was it a good idea to trust him for that hunting? Certainly, as little did she know, this will actually bring her more strength than she could possibly imagine. [Art and sheet TBA]

Spouse

Coraline Barcheor-Tretchy

This is her. Her number one target, and the one that is currently ruining her business. She had luck thus far, but now she was going to take her down, once and for all, just for the sheer time she's been taunted by her, the time of their encounter.

Rival

Robert Puntchallow

After meeting him at Boring Springs and convincing him to drive her west, she instantly regretted having him around. It was no surprising to her; he reminded her too much of the incompetence her husband was. Though, she doesn't want to admit it out loud, but his tardiness, though overboard, sometimes conveys respect in her, for he didn't seem to blow her cover at all. And never will, now they split up.

Partner in crime

Camellia Barcheor-Tretchy

The second sister she had to take down, and that she ledged to Balthazar instead. Worst mistake of her life, as she was still alive, even after Rose was being disposed off. But she vowed on her life to track her back again, if she ever stepped foot on these lands once again.

Rival

Duke Bovicus

Sure, it felt weird to side with horribly untamed demons in the first place, but now he was facing her, she could only comply. Not because she was being patronized, but because she managed to seize the opportunity to better her life where she could, and she saw no trouble with that since then. There seemed to be installed some form of respect between the devilish overlord and the bounty hunter, though it is only cordial and surely this will only be for the time of the mission, before the duke goes mooching away on some hay or whatever evil food Hellcows eat.

Partner in crime

Emperor Norton

It's unclear why she hadn't noticed him, during her first visit at Frisco. However, she spotted him during her second, and thought she would advance in her objective by siding with him. However, she would never anticipate the fact that he would actually bring her to her downfall, by stealing this train.
